Is it reasonable to think, based on all of these rumors, that the second gen iPad will ONLY be 7", and that a new version of the 9.7" won't be released? That would be a mistake in my opinion.

Id say its much more likely for the next set of macs to have Blu-Ray than it is for the next iPad to be 7" only :D

i think most will agree they'll release a 7" and 9.7" models for Gen 2.

I am not conviced myself about this whole 7'' ( i think it is just an old prototype) the OS fragmentation to support all iOS resolutions will me a nightmare for developers (if you include that the AppleTV will be getting an AppStore soon), But them again!...I could be just way off

the current 9.7" iPad has a resolution screen of 1024x768, if Apple were to release a smaller screen size (7 inch) they can do so and still keep the same 1024x768 resolution and developers won't have to do a thing, all apps will work on both the larger and smaller screen.

Agreed, but them why go to 7'' at all? better e reader? what market are they going after? As i said, I am not sure about this whole thing, to me doesn't make sense

i dont see why not. Besides, when as Apple really had to cater to the dev's? Only very recently has there been any lax in their rules. Apple will get the people what they want. Give the Dev's what they want later.

OS Fragmentation said. i wonder if they will try to work the resolutions so Ipad or even Iphone 4 resolutions can be used. It'll be interesting to see if they say anything come next Wednesday.

LOL i am not going to create an agrument here, It doesn;t make sense to me. Apple need to carter A LOT to dev, they make more money from the AppStore than from the Hardware itself.

Next Wednesday will be all about OSX Lion... Nothing about iOS, Steve is very picky about mixing them up. We may see some "sales figure" but's about it

i wonder..

Given his statments about resolution and dev's. Do you think there will NOT be a resolution increase for Ipad 2? Everyone is expecting it but i'm just wondering after hearing what he had to say.

 I don't expect a resolution increase at all. It's clear they aren't going to fragment the platform by using a different size or resolution. The only way to avoid this to use 4x the resolution like the iPhone 4 did. I think panels of this resolution are long ways off since they are having trouble just meeting the demand on the current ones.

i have to say, i'm agreeing with you there. It seems there will be no rez increase this year. My only reasons for not buying an ipad (even though i go to Best Buy weekly to play with one ) was for possible rez increase and 7' form factor. Steve kicked both of those reasons out the door. I dont really care about facetime/camera since both my wife and I ahve Iphone 4's already. Memory increase wont matter since it'll be for home use only 16g wifi will do the job. I got no reasons to wait anymore! I may visit Craigslist...... (for ipad's of course...)
