.. London ..
The London Apple store briefly had on display two 30''s connected to a PowerMac.

This was soon after they opened.

I had a play - awesome - moving the mouse from one corner to the other felt like a trek of epic proportions...

They took them down soon after - I have no idea why. I was quite disappointed, as I had wanted to show them off to some mates.

Wow that is cool! I have really really wanted to see a dual 30" display, better yet... own one, maybe someday, maybe someday.

The search in this place is not bulletproof.

Relax.

Sorry, you're right. Actually, searching for numbers using the regular search engine bites. But that's a discussion that's been had in a more appropriate forum already.

As for the display conundrum, I can't fathom having either. It'd be... screen heaven. :p... If someone was buying it for me, I'd opt for one 30-incher for maximum continuous workspace. Mullions/display edges bother me when I'm working up close across them.

I would get dual 23. Its nice to have wide screen(s) especially in pro apps. Long timeline etc...

But you could also get 30 and then 20. 20 to be the 'view' monitor and 30 to be 'work'.

My dad has Apple CRT 21" and 17" at home hooked up to his dual 1.8 G5 and he uses the larger one as work monitor and the smaller one as view monitor in FCP

I'd go to a store that has the 30" on display and take a look at it if I were you. If you do a lot of video, you might like having the two screens - especially if you're using more than one app at a time.

It depends on personal preference, but I have a single dell24" and I'm probably going to get another one eventually - its better work flow and I've found the 30" to be too big to sit in front of, unless you sit a little farther from the screen. Dividing the working area into 2 screens allows you to focus on one at a time, yet easily move between the two.

Our mac dealer here in the faroes don't have any apple HD screens in stock, they only order on demand, so I have no oppertunity to see how big the 30" HD screen is to work with :(

Yes, if you can get the 30". I've got one at work and it's awesome. If you're near an Apple store go in and try out FCP on it. I think you'll like it. I've used it on mine and I had plenty of room. You will probably need to upgrade your video card, though, if you get the 30". We had to install the $600 Nvidea card to get it working here. There is another card it will work with (I can't remember which one), but this one supports dual 30" if you ever decide that one 30" isnt' enough (craziness)

the machine is very new and has the Nvidia 6800 ultra 256mb card

Try this:
Use a tape measure to map out the following dimensions:
Height: 16 inches
Width: 25.6 inches
I think those are the dimensions of the actual viewing space for the 30". See how large that seems to you... (just working backwards from 100dpi)
