This is music to my ears. Let's hope AT&T and apple honor this. I just went crazy and ordered a 64 gb 3G Ipad. It won't ship until the 17th, but I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to have the $30 unlimited plan, I'm happy happy.

The Apple.com web site plainly states the unlimited plan is available to you if you order the iPad from the Online Store by June 6th.

In light of the mixed signals EVERYONE is getting from both Apple and AT&T representatives, what part of insisting for 100% confirmation do you not understand?

How is a link to their website and information from an Apple representative that checked and verified before giving an answer not confirmation?

The main Apple.com online store website now shows the same info as the first link in this thread:
http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_ipad/family/ipad?mco=OTY2ODA0NQ

Random Apple reps speaking off the top of their head, referring you to Sprint, saying garbage like "it's not exclusive to at&t anymore," not checking anything and not offering an explanation that makes any sense other than "it's confusing," holds no weight next to what's in black and white on the website.

It's right on the order page. Maybe this plan will not last forever since it is a month to month agreement that can be changed in the future, but it's there for anyone who orders now.
""* Available if ordering iPad from the Apple Online Store by June 6." is not confusing or ambiguous in any way. It says order iPad by, not activate account by and it specifies the Online Store as opposed to retail stores.
What other confirmation would make it 100% confirmation?

From The Horses Mouth

Regarding the question of letting the unlimited plan lapse - you lose the option thereafter ----

(They say "iPhone", but this is across all their data plans)

What happens to users on the current iPhone unlimited plan?

Seth Bloom from AT&T's public relations team:

"They get to keep that plan for the forseeable future. The changes do not affect iPhone users who are currently signed up for the $30/month plan or 2G iPhone users on the $20/month plan. If your plan lapses, however, so will your ability to keep unlimited data."

Yes, however that is misleading. What is the activation window? a week? a month?

I'm guessing that yes, you can get the unlimited plan if you order by June 6 and choose overnight shipping, so it is received on the 7th.

Who/where did it say that?

He is correct ,the only way you can let it lapse is to cancel it right on the iPad , once it is canceled , the microsim refreshes itself and your user name and password + info is deleted , when you resign up for data again , it will ultimately give you the 2 new options only after June 6 . I'm pretty sure I am right on this , only one customer can use per microsim at a time

I agree, the activation window is curious - are we going to see "unlimited plan capable" ipads going for a premium on the resale market now?

except it doesn't ship for "7-10 days" and has been that way for the past week at least
also, the new plans start on the 7th, so that logic doesn't make sense anyway

the picture on that TUAW page is hilarious

That was made before the statement appeared on the website at apple. I'm assuming there has been wheeling and dealing going on behind the scenes, and until there is an official release on it, I'm not buying any of it at this point!

Did anyone get an email? I just noticed this in the TOS when I renewed a few minutes ago.

2.3 Can AT&T Change My Terms And Rates?
We may change any terms, conditions, rates, fees, expenses, or charges regarding your Plan, our Data Services, and this Agreement at any time. We will provide you with notice of such changes (other than changes to governmental fees, proportional charges for governmental mandates, or administrative charges) in an email message. You agree to provide us your email address and to notify us if you make any changes to your email address, so we can notify you of such changes. You understand and agree that State and Federal Universal Service Fees and other governmentally imposed fees, whether or not assessed directly upon you, may be increased based upon the government's or our calculations.

I just went to the apple ipad store page where the asterisk indicating ordering by June 6 will permit you to get the unlimited plan. The asterisk is still there, but the line about June 6 is gone, sort of squashed down so you can't read it. Check it out.

Don't belittle me. When I see an actual announcement besides that specifically confirming that AT&T will be grandfathering iPads purchased online before the said date, I'll take that as full "100% confirmation".

By the way, welcome to macrumors. It's unfortunate you've chosen your first four posts here to flog a dead horse with me.

EDIT: look at the front page of MR... do you (now) see everyone's concern? "Until the company's solution is announced, though, consumers have until 11:59 p.m. on June 6, just three days from now, to buy an iPad with 3G capability and sign up for the unlimited plan." Nothing is set, despite what it says on Apple's website.
