Xiaomi's latest Android handset, the Xiaomi Phone 3, will come in two flavors. Buyers can choose to either get the Nvidia Tegra 4 model, which sports a quad-core 1.8GHz Cortex A15 processor, or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz.

Most of the other specs are the same for both models, such as the amount of RAM (2GB), internal storage (16GB) as well as a large 3,050mAh battery. The Xiaomi Phone 3 will sport a 5-inch full-HD IPS display with a pixels-per-inch count of 441ppi.

Xiaomi is also boasting that the phone takes really good pictures with its 13-megapixel camera. The camera uses a Sony sensor and sports an F2.2 aperture, a wide angle of 28mm and a five element lens setup. It will also pack a dual-LED flash.

The phone features a display screen from LG that measures 5 inches with a resolution of 1080p, and is only 8.1mm thick.

The phone comes packed with a 13-megapixel camera from Sony and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, as well as dual-LED flashlights.

Xiaomi basic premise is: Premium Device at Low Prices. They aim to make money from services

The MI3 or MiPhone 3 is available with either a 1.8GHz Tegra 4 processor (on China Mobile's TD-SCDMA network) or Snapdragon 800 CPU (China Unicom and China Telecom, which are WCDMA and CDMA2000, respectively) that provide a 40 percent performance boost over the MI2S.

It also sports a 5-inch 1080p IPS LCD built by Sharp or LG with "ultra sensitive touch" that works even when the user has wet hands or has gloves on. Other bits include 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, 16GB for storage (with a nice 120MB/s read speed), a 3,050mAh battery, 13MP / 2MP camera setup and NFC.

while the phone runs $327 for the 16GB version and $408 for the 64GB.

MiPhone 3 specs include:
Nvidia Tegra4 quad-core 1.8GHz A15 + A15 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.3GHz CPU
Sharp/LG 5″ 1080P IPS display with ultra-sensitive touch
2GB LPDDR3 RAM

2MP BSI front camera
NFC & 2.4/5G WiFi support
3050 mAh battery
Dimensions: 114mm×72mm×8.1mm
Weight: 145g

As you can see, MiPhone 3 looks & specs are on par with recently launched Android flagships like LG G2, Sony Xperia Z1, or Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE-A. But here’s the kicker – instead of the $600+ price tag, Xiaomi MiPhone 3 will retail for $327 (16GB model) and $408 (64GB! model) in China. And that price includes 17% VAT.

Let's see if Google Nexus 5 could top this!

Is this coming to America with American carrier LTE bands? At still at those prices if so?

With Hugo Barra over at Xiami now, it'll be interesting to see where they go and how they can make a splash in the US market and others outside of China. They've always made very pretty handsets.

No way it's coming to America. For same reason cheap Nokia flip phones aren't sold in the USA. Different markets.

This is like, more impressive than anything unveiled yesterday. And I really love the MIUI v5 skin. If only this was AT&T compatible...hopefully Hugo Barra will fix that.

Also, you've got the dimensions wrong.

iphone and Galaxy S4 are sold in China at $600+

Xiaomi is selling a comparable phone at $326.

It's little wonder that their market share in China is growing fast.

2012: 7.1 million smartphone sold
2013: forecasting 20 millions
2014: ???

Not bad for a company that sold its first phone less than 2 years ago (October 2011).

Yes but what use is that to us here if we can't purchase one ;)

Where are they skimping?

Either that or they are content with tiny margins, and operate as lean as Hell as an organization.

Either way, this thing is beastly on paper, but kinda blah looking in photos. Not a fan of the sharp angles.

I read they are the Amazon of the phone industry, selling the devices at thin margins in hopes of recovering the lost profit through their custom app and theme store.

I'm more excited for their next device, which the CEO promised to be made of metal, and Barra's presence suggests will be available worldwide.

What separates Xiaomi from other smartphone manufacturers, and makes the comparison to Apple tenuous at best, is its strategy of selling high-end smartphones at cost, with virtually no profit margins.

Co-founder Bin Lin explained to All Things D earlier this year, "We essentially price our phones at bill-of-materials." The Xiaomi Phone 2S, its most recent flagship, has top end specs competitive with the Samsung Galaxy S4 or HTC One. It sells for a bargain price of ¥2,299 (roughly $370) — roughly half of what the Samsung Galaxy S4 is priced at.

He also says the company has no marketing budget, doesn’t have to account for markups from resellers, and has no sales team.

They have no marketing. No sales team.
They have no physical stores. They sell it online only.
They makes money from services.

1 billion apps in 391 days

Xiaomi announced today that its App Store hit one billion total app downloads. The app store launched about 13 months ago, and is claimed to be one of the top five app stores in China (out of about 200 total). It receives more than 1.3 million searches every day from 17 million active users. They download five million apps per day.

Looks like a slimmer, beefed up iPod nano.

Honestly, if this is what WP8 devices looked like (shares a similar design with the Nokia Lumia line), I'd be more inclined to pick one up.....

And just today the WSJ is reporting that Amazon is considering offer a smartphone for free.

Look like Xiaomi will have competition in Western markets.

What services could they possibly offer in the USA that would make this model viable? China's lockdown might open doors for domestic services by Chinese providers, but I can't imagine them offering anything that needed to the average American consumer.

Rumour: Xiaomi Mi4 to feature MiOS instead of Android

The Chinese tech industry moves far to quickly! Less than a week after the Xiaomi Mi3 launch, rumour of the Xiaomi Mi4, and a new Linux based MiOS have already surfaced!
According to insiders at Xiaomi, the Beijing phone maker has been working on it’s own Linux-based operating system since April this year. Internally known as MiOS, the new system is similar to Google’s Chrome in that it is browser-based, suggesting that it could run on phones, TV’s, tablets and even netbooks in the future.
Employees at the company even claim that MiOS is undergoing tests in a next generation Android phone which could eventually become the Xiaomi Mi4!
Xiaomi phones now run on a heavily customised version of Android named MIUI. As standard MIUI comes striped of all Google services and apps (although they can easily be installed) and even runs Xiaomi’s own App Store. The idea of MiOS is a very exciting one, but unless it is going to be compatible with Android applications, we feel it might be to much of a challenge even for the mighty Xiaomi!
What do you think of the idea of MiOS? Would you be happy to but in to a new OS, or do you think it is risky business?

the specs are awesome! but, software is also an important thing.
it has the MIUI, which is one of the worst UIs ever made, if they offer a google edition phone, i'll be the first in the line...:)

Price tag still too high for Chinese market
The official prices of iPhone 5s is identical to the iPhone 5 previously sold in China, where the low-end 16GB model is priced at 5,288 yuan (US$864) per set. However, the long-waited cheaper version, iPhone 5c, is priced at 4,488 yuan (US$733) for the 16GB model. This was the only "big surprise" to the Chinese consumers this time, though, not in a positive way, unfortunately.

Chinese netizens express displeasure over iPhone 5c pricepoints.
Here's what Chinese netizens are saying on Sina Webo... "It brighten's Chinese smartphone makers' day." "Apple is definitely the next Nokia." "iPhone 5c's C is not Cheap, is not China, it is Cheat!"

$733 in China for iPhone 5c

or

$326 for Xiaomi Mi3

Not a hard choice considering the Mi3 have better specs (overall) and at less than half the price.

16GB and 32GB internal storage
2GB RAM
MSM8974 aka Snapdragon 800 at 2.3GHz

2300mAh battery
Sensors: Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Proximity/Ambient Light, Pressure
Slimport compatibility
Micro SIM slot
Notification light
Wireless charging
NFC
Bluetooth 3.0 (We assume this is an error – Bluetooth 4.0 appears elsewhere in the document, but according to the last page it's still a draft.)
UMTS/GSM/CDMA/LTE compatibility

Google is playing the Xiaomi strategy of "great specs at low price." Maybe trying to thwart off Amazon.

A shame that they screwed up every single release so far ... as a web company I am still surprised how shocking their online store is when it comes to phone releases ...

I really hope that Xiaomi brings a phone stateside sometime soon.

If that comes to the US and Amazon tries to get into the "high-specced-low-priced-break-even" game along with Google then I think it would literally force prices down while innovation and differentiation would shoot up across the market... and in the end we all win :)

Isn't this where Hugo barra (sp) went? His goal is to make this a global company. With those specs I'm all for it. I know it's doubtful but does that thing have US LTE bands?

I believe Xiaomi's market share in China is greater than Apple now with its pricings. Overall this seems like a very solid phone, and even better with the price, but I expect the next-gen Nexus 5 to have similar hardware so we do have a very close alternative here in US.
