a better place
A shame that they screwed up every single release so far ... as a web company I am still surprised how shocking their online store is when it comes to phone releases ...

And let's not even talk about global releases ... At best they can do is about half a dozen countries.

They don't even offer phones or hardware in the 1 European country where they are actually based either. Its tres bizarre

China’s Xiaomi sells 100,000 units of its newest phone in 86 seconds and 3,000 smart TVs in 2 minutes

Early last month, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi unveiled its latest flagship device, the Mi-3. At the same time, the company also officially stepped into the living room with the launch of a 47-inch 3D smart TV.

The first batch of 100,000 Mi-3 phones were released at 12 noon today for sale on its website, and they were snapped up in 86 seconds flat, Xiaomi announced on its Sina Weibo account today. The 16GB version of Mi-3 is retailing for CNY1999 ($327), while the 64GB version is going for CNY2499 ($410).

Xiaomi’s TV sets also turned out to be popular among customers. The first batch of 3,000 TVs released on Xiaomi’s website was wiped out in nearly 2 minutes (1 minute and 58 seconds, to be precise), the company said on Sina Weibo. The smart TV, which comes as a natural progression following the company’s launch of Xiaomi’s stream-to-TV set-top box earlier this year, is retailing for CNY2,999 ($490).

Xiaomi Mi3 at $326

Nvidia Tegra4 quad-core 1.8GHz A15 + A15 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.3GHz CPU
Sharp/LG 5″ 1080P IPS display with ultra-sensitive touch
2GB LPDDR3 RAM
16GB or 64GB eMMC4.5 flash memory
SONY 13 MP Exmor RS CMOS back camera
2MP BSI front camera
NFC & 2.4/5G WiFi support
3050 mAh battery
Dimensions: 114mm×72mm×8.1mm

vs.

Google Nexus 5 very likely at $349 for 16GB version

4.95" 1080p display (IPS TFT for those interested)
16GB and 32GB internal storage
2GB RAM
MSM8974 aka Snapdragon 800 at 2.3GHz
8MP OIS rear camera, 1.3MP front camera
2300mAh battery
Sensors: Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Proximity/Ambient Light, Pressure
Slimport compatibility
Micro SIM slot
Notification light
Wireless charging
NFC
Bluetooth 3.0 (We assume this is an error – Bluetooth 4.0 appears elsewhere in the document, but according to the last page it's still a draft.)
UMTS/GSM/CDMA/LTE compatibility

Google is playing the Xiaomi strategy of "great specs at low price." Maybe trying to thwart off Amazon.

$349 price is Confirmed. Xiaomi might have stiff competition if it expands to Europe/North America.

$349 for Nexus 5 vs. $327 for Xiaomi Mi3

ZTE strikes back at Xiaomi

http://www.androidheadlines.com/201...n-pre-orders-upcoming-nubia-z5s-z5s-mini.html

Pre-orders of the device went live today, and the company is saying that they have broken all of Xiaomi’s amazing sales records. In a press release today, ZTE says it has taken 2.5 million pre-orders for these two smartphones. Not too shabby.

The Nubia Z5S has a 1080p, 5-inch display with a 441 ppi pixel density. It is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC clocked at 2.3 GHz. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front facing shooter. With 2 GB of RAM, and running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, this is no slouch of a smartphone.

The Nubia Z5S Mini is the smaller sibling to the Z5S. It has a 4.7-inch, 720p display. It runs on a Snapdragon 600 SoC with 2GB of RAM and has a 13-megapixel rear camera. There are several variants of the Nubia Z5S and the Nubia Z5S Mini. Both devices will come in 16 GB and 32 GB flavors, and also will come in HSDPA and LTE flavors. The Nubia Z5S starts at 1,999 yuan ($329). The smaller Nubia Z5S Mini goes for 1,499 yuan ($246) in its 3G incarnation. The LTE versions will of course cost more than that.

$329 for

1080p, 5-inch display with a 441 ppi pixel density
quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC clocked at 2.3 GHz
a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front facing shooter.
2 GB of RAM,
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

It easy to see why it has 2.5 million pre-orders on the first day

Xiaomi basic premise is: Premium Device at Low Prices. They aim to make money from services

So now we're considering handsets without knowing the OS and how it runs, and the track record of the handset maker?

The Spec Whores should rejoice over this one, I guess.

I don't get it.

The OS is Android

It runs great. It got great reviews from users

Track record? It's not like they are making poor devices. They make premium devices at very low profit margin. They use premium hardware from Qualcomm, LG/Sharp and Sony. Their CEO have stated that they are emulating Amazon strategy. Making money from service, not hardware. Which mean they are willing to sell the hardware almost at cost and make money from selling apps, accessories and the likes.

2012: 7.1 million smartphone
2013: 19 million
2014: they are projecting 38 millions

They have sold more than 3 million smartphone in the month of November 2013.

Xiaomi President Bin Lin said his company is on track to sell 19 million smartphones globally this year and expects the number to "grow by 100 percent" in 2014.

"Our smartphone shipments will reach 19 million units this year, but we will still face a shortage. We think the strong demand will continue next year," he told a media briefing after Xiaomi's first fans gathering in Taiwan.

In the West, there is a similar brand. It's the Nexus 5 selling at very low profit margin.

And the Moto G, also selling at very low profit margin.

Meh I dont care about lte, h+ is good enough for me. I have LTE and for me it is useless as I do not to online video on my phone and if I did it would just cause me to hit my 2.5 gig cap faster

The ZTE phone comes with 16GB, 32GB, 64GB.

And they don't charge $100 for each storage upgrade.

microSDXC is specified upto 2TB. A phone that specifies a 64GB limit should actually support it. You might also get some extra life if it specifies less, formatting the card as FAT32.

This is 2013.....

In 2 years time, the same phone (with identical specs) might be on sale for $199 off-contract.

Possible?

Who would ever choose the Tegra 4 option? Crappy drivers and less apps supporting that SOC along with worse performance, can't see anyone buying the Tegra version.

yep…saw that article. Projected sales versus actual sales are 2 different things.
If they expect big sales in the US they better include LTE and for the phones to work on any GSM carrier.

Xiaomi hasn't expand beyond China/Hong Kong/Taiwan/Singapore yet.

I'm sure they know that LTE will be very important.

Oh i agree….. they have a great price point in those countries. They have manufacturing and structure in place to do well there. But expanding to the rest of the world will those advantages follow them?
