Do you have a link somewhere that says that? As far as I can tell Apple's site doesn't say any of the bands are size specific.

Edit: Or is it just because they don't show them as part of the collection?

Yes I thoght that those shown in the collections are the ones you can buy. I think they would show off a 38mm leather loop if they made one, the other bands are presented in both sizes.

----------

All bands will come in both sizes. They simply don't show all of the combinations on the site today.

I think not, they clearly states that there are exactly 18 models in the apple watch collection of which three are modern buckle 38mm and three are leather loop 42mm. The other bands come in both sizes.

Source??? It appears that Apple will offer the bands and combinations and sizes listed on the site. Apple is CLEAR on the sizes offered in the Apple Watch Gallery for specific bands. Are you saying that Apple is wrong and incomplete in their descriptions?

In the Introduction video Jony Ive says: "We've also developed a smaller watch with matching smaller straps"

It would make sense to me that they offer every band for both sizes.

I agree. From that list it also seems that the blue-gold classic buckle and black-gold sports band are only 42mm and the gray/red gold modern buckles are 38mm only.

"Matching" could mean 'bands matching the smaller sized watch' and not matching all bands.

Again, explain why the Apple Watch Gallery is so specific about which bands come in which sizes.

I understood it to be all bands would be available for each watch. The gallery is organised as such to show all the different bands and watches with a note to say which is which so folk know but not to show what band are available for each size\type of watch.

Then why say 38mm and 42mm on some bands and only say 38mm or 42mm on other bands?

Because these are simply descriptions of the images, not an exhaustive list of the total offerings.

It makes zero sense for Apple to restrict the bands as you have suggested. If Apple doesn't offer the band I want in the size I need, I will simply go to a third party to get what I want. Why penalize someone that wants a specific band because their wrist is smaller/larger?

IMO everyone is overthinking this. The bands will come in both sizes.

So you are saying Apple is WORNG on their website and needs to change it to read "View 18 of the 24 models in the collection."

Immediately following the watch announcement I measured it against an old cheapy watch that I got years ago. They are nearly identical sizes (with the 42mm). Of course it's a round watch so it's not perfect, but the thickness is the same and the size is as best that can be approximated (curves on the sides jut out a smidgen and it's missing the 4 corners barely peaking out. The image above confirms it. Based on this, I think the 42mm is right at the maximum size before it starts to become kinda clunky and unwieldy. I would probably go for the 42mm. That being said, I don't think the 38mm is designed for females by any means. I think it's a great size in itself. I would compare the difference in size similar to the iPhone 5 and 6 rather than the 6 and 6+.

It's possible that Apple is limited the number of combinations out of the box for simplicity, but that doesn't mean you can't have other band options.

For example, the sport only comes with the sport band, but you can still purchase additional bands and they will fit just fine. So maybe Apple is choosing the combinations that make the most sense to them.

While possible, bands like the Soft Pink Leather sounds more feminine and seems plausible to be only in 38mm. I think that Apple should offer all bands in all sizes. I'm just going by what Apple is saying and not what I believe.

18 combinations out of the box seems like a ton.
18 combinations is only for the SS aWatch. Sport is 10 and Edition is 6 for 34 SKUs. That is a lot of stock just to carry ever single one. Also add each band and now you have 68 SKUs (provide only the bands shown are sold) of the aWatch line. If Apple does offer one of every band in both sizes then you are up to 78 SKUs.:eek:

I think that apple will never lose the opportunity to sell some bands... Money is good for tim & friends... Ive talked about millions of combinations...

I'm saying that it doesn't make any sense to only make a band in one of the two sizes and I do not believe they will go that route.

My guess is that the "Gallery" is the suggested combinations for purchase together for each "Collection". This does not prevent you from purchasing additional bands.

One can easily explain the "18" by noticing that they do not show the Sport model with any bands other than the sport band.

Apple has gone out of their way to not fall into common gender stereotypes with their products and marketing. We should do the same here.

As I have said I don't know and think they should make them in all sizes. However that is not what the Apple site say. Also you say...
All bands will come in both sizes. They simply don't show all of the combinations on the site today.
How do you know what no one else knows and the Apple site contradicts??? Rhetorical since you CAN'T know and are just speculating.

You should say '[I believe] all bands will come in both sizes. They [probably] simply don't show all of the combinations on the site today' Then you would be correct.;)

Again I HOPE you are right but until I see evidenced to the contrary I will stick with what Apple says. As of now Apple says they won't be available in all sizes.

No. As of now Apple has not explicitly stated they will or won't be available in all sizes. They have constructed a website that leaves the matter unclear. That is not proof of anything. Apple also does not show every default application that will come pre-installed on the device - it hardly means they don't/won't exist.

Speculation is the nature of this website. I'm basing mine on experience and intuition. Time will tell.
