I got to learn how to use it when my XS MAX comes.

When I got my 7plus a couple for years, I wasn't able to delete the apps using the method I was used to (press and hold), when I found out the reason 3d touch was the reason why, I turned the feature off and didn't look back.

I think it is a nifty optional feature, no doubt quite useful for many. I personally don't use it because I can never remember which app supports what 3D touch function. So I turned it off.

I don't turn it off but I never used it. Scratch that, I use it maybe 0.00000000001% of the time.

I use it constantly and can’t see myself getting a phone without it
(I did not have time to watch the keynote, so was looking on apple.com when I got home)
After seeing the 3 new iPhones announced, I immediately dropped the XS from the 3 due to the smaller screen.
Left me between the XS Max and the XR

Was going back and forth between the two. Until I saw no 3d Touch in the specs on the XR. XS Max it was.

I use it everyday to launch the app switcher or switch apps on my 6s plus and as a shortcut to call one of my favorites with the phone app 3d touch menu.

I use it all the time. It’s a great and convenient time-saver. Previewing web links, peeking at photos, using iMessage effects, turning the keyboard into a trackpad when typing, stuff like that. I also like how it works with the flashlight and camera buttons on the lock screen. It adds a nice “click” feedback like you’re actually pressing a button, and significantly reduces accidental initiations since it requires more than a simple touch.

I’ll actually be pretty annoyed if they remove it.

Why would anyone turn it off? It’s such a great and useful feature

I doubt many iPhone users even know how to turn it off, because some don’t even know what 3D Touch even is. Which is really unfortunate, because it’s a great feature that Apple never really highlighted aside from the iPhone 6s keynote. I know some that have 3D Touch on their iPhone and they seriously have no idea what it is or what it does. But once you actually show the user its capabilities, they realize how convenient it is that’s built into the stock and third party iOS apps. It really is a nice short cut tool.

3D Touch is the 'PC Keyboard Shortcut' (or programmed F-Key) of IOS.

& like those F-keys, if you're unaware of the commands, then you don't know how useful they are.

My most common 3D Touch command is on Google Maps - where I have my "Home" & "Work" addresses as shortcuts...In one second, Google Maps open up with best directions to my destination.

My favourite is the Harmony Remote App which has all my Pre-programmed Activities, where I just press one button & multiple home theatre devices start up/shut down.

Chrome (& Google Assistant) has a Voice Search option in their 3D Touch menus that I use heaps.

Settings has some very handy Shortcuts, as do Messages/Phone/Pocket Weather/Email/Socials (Twitter etc.).

Chances are, your most commonly used Apps have useful shortcuts in their 3D Touch menus.

I use it everyday for shortcuts into app functions and for peek/pop with URL's mainly.

People that never use it (and never have) really should not be commenting. I did not know about it before reading this post and just checked out a few videos. Pretty cool stuff, BUT - only if you use it.

(okay, before I get slammed, anyone can comment on anything, even if they know nothing about it. That appears to have become the new normal)

So i have tried to use it many times, and the people that say "you just don't know how to use it" that is BS.

the annoyances I face with it are mostly the 3 levels of distinction of pressure.

For instance using Safari, I like to open links in another tab a lot, this is SO hard to do with 3d touch, it seems no matter the pressure i push I can't seem to get the menu I am looking for, I either get a preview or a full press I go right into the page (not what I want). I know its possible to make the context menu come up, i'm just not sure how sometimes it happens by luck.

And that is just Safari as an example...

With it off i can't easily get the menu i'm looking for.

I don't feel like the "shortcuts really add to anything, never once did i think, "when launching the flashlight, I wish it was a bit more dim" No I want all or nothing!!!

anyway these are just a couple of my annoyances i have with the feature.

There are only two. Force touch a little to see the preview, then press down harder to commit. But while you’re holding the preview, you just swipe up to bring up the menu. I use the new tab feature quite often. You’ll quickly learn how much force it takes. You can even adjust the sensitivity in settings.

It seems to annoy me more then become useful for anything. Not to mention I forget it exists 99% of the time, easier just to turn it off.

Who agrees?
I love it. I use it every day, in most apps. You get quick contextual menus, or in safari, a preview page of a link (and the option to open in a new window). As someone else said, quick access to select functions straight from the App icon (if the app developer has created useful functions). I would hate to lose it. I'm surprised that Apple felt this was something they should do away with, even on a 'lower' end phone (at $750-850, not really very low end, other than in image density and cameras!).

I use 3D Touch for basic stuff and I like it where it’s useful to me.

I think the disappointment is in the lack of uses. Not many apps use 3D Touch and why would they when iPads don’t have the feature and neither does iPhone 5S or 6/6+. The shortcuts from the Springboard are fun, but again, they could be more prevelant and useful if they could do more.

I believe Apple will move away from 3D Touch, but I don’t want them to. I want them to invest in that as much as they are AR. Haptic Touch doesn’t sound as exciting.
Very good point—I have also felt that iPads should have 3D Touch! And since Apple differentiated the "Pro" and the mainstream (let's call it the 'Jolie Laide',;) because the basic $400 iPad is beautiful in her own way!) model, 3D Touch would be an excellent way to add to the deeper functionality/power of the Pro models. Marty1980 — regarding AR functionality, I think that 3D Touch could also be useful in AR/VR functions. I'm not a software designer, so I may be way off base, but haptics seem to me like they should be part and parcel of an AR/VR experience due to the increased feedback.

I catch myself hard-pressing on icons and links all the time on my iPad, as I am so accustomed to do on my iPhone for the last few years!

LOL! I think many of us (or at least I) get your meaning, no ill will intended. It is really cool, and very useful once you start to familiarize yourself with the functionality in different apps.

I did not know about that, thank you:)
