My theory:
These ipods out are still 2G (call it 2.5G if you want) since Apple doesn't refer to them as 3G anywhere. Camera problems forced them to delay the 3G, but they didn't want to announce that at the event last week because that would lose some sales to the new ZuneHD which comes out next week.
The 3G iPods will be ready for the Christmas shopping season (in a month maybe?). Apple will also release a firmware upgrade for iPod Touches that will activate some hidden features in the 2.5Gs (Wireless N, FM radio, FM transmitter) that will keep 2.5G owners from being quite as pissed.
I'm sticking with my 2G for now to see how this plays out.
