Is a camera really that important?

It's cool, it's geeky-heaven, but in the end, it's not something I'd focus on. An iPod touch gives you the App Store. 75,000+ functions vs camera. I think the apps win.

The new iPod touch 3Gs are NOT 2.5G. At least, the 32/64Gb models aren't. They feature a new ARM Cortex processor that rivals the iPhone 3GS. And a new graphics chip that also rivals the iPhone 3GS. Performance should be on par with the iPhone 3GS or slightly better.

If that's what you call 2.5G, then go ahead. But if you knew what you were talking, which apparently you didn't, then call the 3G - Camera.

Calm down... I have very little interest in a nano style camera that can't do stills. I'm just passing the information along.

Possible Apple could have another line of iPod Touch

One targeted for gaming the other in the pocket computer set

Just thinking out loud here

That would make no sense, creating two lines of ipods, especially not in a couple of months, and even less so immediately after Christmas, which would just result in them sitting on shelves for a year.

Apparently some people never learn. You act as if Best Buy is somehow the authority on this, I mean, this is EXACTLY the same thing everyone fell for last time. EXACTLY, cases, unverified info on cases.

It would kind of make sense if the camera was to jack up the prices for the iPod touch. So some people would not want to spend the extra money and want to opt out.

This got me excited for a minute. But this is Wal-Mart's actual policy: "GPS units, digital music players and portable video players: Must be returned within 15 days of receipt." cf. http://www.walmart.com/returns.

Target's a bit better: "Restocking Fees: Some items are subject to a 15% restocking fee, including camcorders, digital cameras, portable DVD players and portable electronics." So on a $300 32gb touch, you'd be out $45 or so. But that's assuming you haven't allowed the thing to be dinged up at all. http://www.target.com/b/ref=br_bx_0/192-2537151-2469514?ie=UTF8&node=10665391

My friend returned a Touch last week with no problem, opened and used. All his money back...I returned 2 iPods to Target before full refund, if you tell them it wasnt working properly they'll take it back....they take anything back as long as u have the receipt

I think that walmart link is for online orders, if you buy an item and it just stops working on the 16th day, you cant return it?? Doubt that...Walmart will take it back...they take anything back

Well, I'm pretty sure that they won't take it back after 15 days. Don't ask me why, because I don't know, but that's their policy, and they should stick to it, whether online or in-store, they should have the same policy on returns and exchanges.

Does the fact that this only appears on the Canadian website strike anyone else as odd?

And why can't people get over the fact that the touch came camera-less? I will admit, I definitely was expecting it. And even spent several moments cursing. >.> But hey. I got over it. No amount of whining will get you a camera till the next update, be that in February -coughunlikelycough- or next September. It would be bad business practice to release another version of the same product so soon. So deal.

You mean, like when apple took FW away from the MB line, only to put it right back a few months later? Yeah, I was pissed off because I was ready to buy my first mac. But not without FW. But the difference there was I was able to get a really cheap refurb of the previous generation that I love.

Something obviously happened. There was supposed to be a camera, but apple couldn't make it happen by the ipod event, aka self imposed deadline, which is just stupid. If apple was not so caught up with their image and these damn media events, they would have fixed the problem and pushed the release date, like any other company. Instead, they released a dumbed down product.

Until now, I've only seen case manufacturers I've never heard of selling camera hole cases on websites I've never heard of. The fact that Init is selling cases at Best Buy with camera holes is strange. But I have to believe that this all comes back to the production problems. There was supposed to be a camera so these case manufacturers put a hole in their cases. The most likely reason we see these available for pre-order at best buy is that Init is still in the process of getting their cases ready for sale WITHOUT a hole for the camera. However, just like the photos that surfaced of the ipod with a camera, Init's initial prototypes had camera holes, so that's the image they sent out to go with their pre-orders. I would bet that if you pre-ordered that item, you would receive a case that did not have a camera hole in it. (Someone in Canada do it and tell us what you get ;)) But I would rather have apple release a new model with a camera in a few weeks so I don't get screwed on two major apple purchases in about a year.
