OK, so your question is:

Is the 3G iPad faster or slower than the WiFi model in real world applications?

Regardless of type of internet connection...you are solely wondering if the 3G radio makes the newest iPad slower (or faster)?

Jesus wept guys, the man just wants to know how the 3G feels, it is snappy or is it just a step over dialup. It's not the 8th mystery of the universe he's asking you to solve.

Wow...this thread is painful. I would assume that since the 3GS is able to use AT&T's 7.2mbs service that the ipad would be the same. The variable would be the difference in rendering times between the ipad and 3GS. The ipad should get the data at the same rate, but be able to put it to the screen quicker. Thus, pages should load a little quicker. Actual "3G speed" should be the same throughput. There! solved. And I don't even need to run tests!

No, read the title: he says 3G "vs." WIFI. Thus the answer must be based on some comparison between the 3G model "vs." the WIFI model. What this comparison is supposed to be, no one knows.

Somebody understood!!!! :D Thank you.....

Now if only ONE single individual that actually OWNS and has had time to PLAY with their 3G for a little bit could pop on in here......

I'm not an engineer, I'm not looking for the full software and hardware breakdown

simple simple simple

When switching back and forth between 3G and Wifi.....speedwise....do you find a ridiculously noticeable difference in the overall speed and snappiness or.....wait a second, you guys have GOT to be messing with me, there is NO POSSIBLE way I should be repeating myself this many times in 1 thread....

Maybe you should have made it a multiple choice question instead of essay. :D

...if it matters, I knew what you meant the first time.;)

I think members of this forum should need to take a mandatory "understand what the other person is saying" course before they can post. The majority of threads get taken over by people who are applying their very different interpretations onto what an original poster says and then answering their question, not his.

The original poster wasn't saying "is 3g faster than wifi?"

The original poster was basically saying, does it feel painfully slow on 3g, does a Web page take 3 times as long to render on 3g, does it feel like a broken or bad experience on 3g.

3G is faster than a "step over dial up" a good bit faster but not quite as fast as my WiFi. I will do some testing this weekend.

I do not care, I want 3G there when I need it!

What I hope is everyone will only use 3G when they have to instead of all the time so they think they are getting their money's worth! It will only slow the network down if they do. I think when they find that WiFi is MUCH faster they will use it!

I'll do some comparisons once the 3G arrives. My wife has the wifi version and has MyWi on her iPhone so I can test:

3G iPad vs wifi iPad: wifi test
3G iPad vs wifi iPad: 3G speed vs 3G MyWi speed

Yes, please do report as I'm very interested in that exact scenario as I am tethering with MyWi but considering the 3G for my wife.
