I've seen that ... don't know what it means actually. Unless it just refers to boards made by Intel ... but for them not to work, would be highly unlikely.

They seem very cheap though, like half the price anybody else sells them for. And while they seem cheap overall, no other CPU they sell seems to have such a price discrepancy.

Would love to get to the bottom of this...without buying them to find out :)

Photography, Windows emulation. RAW file processing and editing, image stacking, general mix of digital photo processing software. The ability to have Windows running in the background and some other apps would be good. I'm thinking of future needs. I know that for my present use a quad or hex would be more than adequate but if in the near future I can leverage bang for buck, why not?

What. The. Heck. You're doing photography and virtual machinery with a Mac Pro? You have got to be kidding me. A 15" MBP is just fine. MacBook Air, even.

6 Cores is overkill. iMac should be good enough.

Might be doing some video too, and digitizing old photos, VCR tapes. Since I was able to pick up a used one more cheaply than either alternative you mention I figured I'd try it. If it proves adequate as is I might not even need the processor upgrade, in which case I get off cheap.
