EDIT: the bottom part of the metal rim looks really terrible. I was hoping for the metal rim + plastic back combo for the N4, but not if it's going to look like this.

Have to say the S5 Prime was the S5 Prime no one wanted
The galaxy Alpha is likewise not the S5 prime that people want it to be ...

2 new phones and Samsung missed the mark. It again feels like a lack of focus and too many design cooks spoiling the broth over at Sammy.

Too bad it will have touchwiz :(

Based on the leaked images, it also looks like it won't be water resistant like the S5.

But don't worry, Samsung will still keep blindly firing away with their machine gun, hoping something eventually hits the target. ;)

Touchwiz won't go away because that is the UI they use for Tizen. This will allow them to switch there devices over to Tizen in the future without anyone having a big fuss. They want to make money off the ecosystem with their own store not Google reaping the profits. They are also tired of paying Microsoft for Android infringements.

Looking at the Alpha screen shots, looks like they trying hard to copy Apple. It's getting sad. Even the lock screen is just slightly different from iOS. Camera icon slightly moved as well as date and time.

The Sony phones are actually stylish and attractive. Surprised nobody really talks about them here. I seen one the other day in Starbucks and I was impressed.

iPhone 6 Alternative

Anyone considering the Samsung Galaxy Alpha instead of the upcoming iPhone? Think Galaxy S5 with lighter specs in an aluminum body. It appears to take direct cues from the iPhone and will even offer the same colors as the 5s.

Sony devices are hard to get in the states and many/some? of the international models don't support LTE here.

Really hoping the z3 compact makes it to the US

Wish sony would care more about us market for sure. Most of their devices are too big for me, but love the compacts

I could live with that screen, however, the 1,860mAh battery is deal breaker for me.

I'm confused by all the vitriol toward the battery size. We don't yet know how long that battery lasts. Given the lower resolution display, the smaller size of the device and the lower power chip, isn't it conceivable to think this battery will last just as long as other Samsung devices?

Judging battery life based on the mAh is like judging a camera based on the MP. It doesn't tell the whole story. Let's wait until some reviewers get their hands on one and test it out - give us real life hours numbers.

Everyone here knows I have no love for Samsung and think the Alpha is a shameless ploy to try and out-iPhone 6 the iPhone 6 before its released (and I'm laughing as it fails miserably). But these types of criticisms don't make sense when people levy them against the iPhone's smaller battery and they shouldn't here.

I see nothing on the SGA to pry me away from my Nexus 5.

The processor in the Nexus 5 is better, the screen resolution is better, the bezels are smaller while the screen itself is bigger, making the two phone virtually the same size and the battery on the N5 is bigger. The N5 benefits from frequent software updates directly from Google while the Alpha is hamstrung by TouchWiz.

The build quality of the Alpha looks nice (though it looks suspiciously like an iPhone 5), but the N5 is no slouch - feels great and solid in the hand.

Camera is likely better in the SGA, but the N5's camera is good enough for me.

The SGA isn't quite enough to entice me to switch.

I agree and also factor in the new 20nm Exynos - battery life should be better than most predict.

In a phone that slim, what do people expect?

I was thinking the same thing. You can also factor in the battery saving mode to extend the battery life which works great on the S5 to be also included in the Alpha.

The people that remark negatively on the Alpha fail to see the same or worse spec on the iPhone 5S & rumored 6.
Let's wait to compare both in the real world before making righteous claims.

I didn't realize they were hard to get. Figured you could order straight from Sony's website or maybe go to a Sony store? I'm not an Android guy anymore but if I was to give it a go again, Sony and Moto would be the manufacturers I'd probably go with.

Poor attempt by Samsung. They release a device to compete with the iPhone 6, with moderate processing power, a 1,800mAh battery and a 4.7" display (sound familiar). The only decent thing about the phone is the design- which is extremely similar to the iPhone and even comes in Apple's 3 choices of color. Yet, Samsung has the audacity to mock iPhone users for their lack of battery and screen size- the next iPhone is likely to have a larger battery than the Alpha's and the same size screen.

There is something largely wrong within the marketing infrastructure at Samsung.

According to Anandtech, US version is going to come with S801 like S5.

Different market per se but bring on the Note 4. Not even a blip on my radar to tell the truth with this one, perhaps totally a backwards move probably for most here as well.

No IR remote and Not water resistant. There is one screen grab doing rounds with 11 hours video play back time. Octocore version is suppose to be 20nm. Form over function kind of phone.

http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-alpha-versus-galaxy-s5-whats-difference

Oh, because I really want to have a flap that covers my charging slot- besides, Apple's processors match and if not beat flagship Octacore processors by intense software enhancements. Which is why Apple's iPhone benchmarks are inline with the competition. The iPhone 6 will undoubtably perform better because of this and a higher clock speed. IR, to me is just a gimmick, maybe if you watch a lot of TV, but I don't. As for battery, I wouldn't believe the rubbish Samsung tells you.

Hmm, thanks.

I wish they didn't butcher their minis so much this is their first smaller phone with equiv processor. . I like the form factor, but too many concessions for me. Sd + ir + water resistant along with other known characteristics would make me at least check it out.
