Here are some pics of my 4th faulty imac core duo, which arrived this afternoon. If you can't see the pic properly i will tell you that the plastic front is not even glued or fixed to the tft screen properly. This is a joke 4 imacs and all of them are totaly unacceptable. If it the front wasn't scratched it was the screen that was scratched if it wasn't any of them it would have a chip out of the plastic and even if that wasn't enough the tft screen would be faulty. I am pissed.

That really is a shame. You should talk to iGary-- the two of you have been Apple-cursed. 
But on a more serious note, it is frustrating that you've had the horrid luck of receiving 4 'bad' Apples, but don't give up. You'll get a great product and then you'll see why we love to use Macs.

I'm with you bud. This is my second laptop and the screen hasn't been right on either of them, and this one's harddrives keeps making clicking sounds ("but the problem can't be re-created" when I'm at the store).

It should not be a draw, the product should be spot on from day one. I have a mac mini and an imac G5 and both of them are perfect, and i have not had a problem with them. 4 17" imac core duo's does take the piss abit, i did order these from the appleuk online store, so you think they would have know that i had already had 3 faulty ones and made absolutley sure that this farse would not carry on beyond a forth.
The bezel of the screen is not supposed to be glued to the screen. That is how they are. Mine is like that. If you're looking for one that is glued, maybe you should consider another computer because this one is never going to satisfy you.
What!! On my G5 i can't pull the plastic away from the screen. I didn't remember seeing this on the first 2 imac core duos i had, only on the 3rd and forth. And you telling me you would be happy with your imac looking like the picture i posted, if you are you are a mug and Apple is taking you for a mug. Just because you want a decent OS it doesn't mean you should put up with **** like the picture posted.
Yes my finger is ok, the camera has a swivel lens, and i swiveled it to a differnet angle to take the pic. I would rather they just swapped it, the screen and the case have scraches on them. About the point mentioned above that the plastic is not supposed to be glued or fixed to the screen. well how come it is solid on the left hand side but nowhere else, strange. Can anyone else with a 17" or 20" imac core duo comment on this?
Obviously the more you move to the center away from the corners, t will have more "play", but it is NOT supposed to be glued.
The G5 iMac, the screen is SCREWED to the bezel. On ths iSight and Intel Core Duo iMacs the screen is screwed to the chassis, not the bezel. That is how it is!

How come the left hand side and the top are solid but the bottom and the right hand side look shoddy. This is my forth one and i know from the first two that they are not supposed to be like that. And why have 2 sides that are nice and tight to the screen and two sides that are not, it does not make sense.
My bottom panel on my imac intel (20") is flush but can be pulled back with your finger. Not an issue on my side, I could care less. As long as I can't see it and my system works flawless I'm good to go.
Take a picture without your finger pulling it back and the imac is turned on so I have light to see how far the housing sits away from the screen.

The bottom panel on my 20" is also flush, but if I try and pull it forward with my finger it kinda makes a clicking sound, but it'll only give a little bit. I also have a few very light scuffs to the right of the Apple logo but they're very very un-noticeable, didn't think it was worth returning as I might get one which is worse. I think we just have to accept not everything is perfect anymore, no matter how much we pay
You put up with taking back 4 machines! Wow, not saying you aren't patient, but I am willing to say it just isn't meant to be. I'd have given up after 2 machines.

keeping the 4th machine now. I rang Apple and they agreed to a second goodwill gesture. They knocked £70 off the price, and the first good will gesture they knocked £63, so i ended up getting the 17" imac core duo with 1x 1gb and 250gb hard drive for £916 that's £135 off the price. I feel alot happier now knowing it only cost £916 with the minimal defects, that is if you can call them defects. Ok so the paint that has come off is a defect, but i will not be seeing it when i am looking at the screen. I am going to start switching all my stuff from my G5 to the intel imac, so i hope everybody is right in saying the intel imacs rock.

I know...I know that if you pay a large sum of cash for a product then it should be perfect.
But...well...y'know...is it really that bad to go through all the hassle? Personally, I just couldn't be bothered with that sort of thing - I wouldn't see it and something like that wouldn't affect resale value much at all.
That said, I'm only going by your photos...which are bloody awful ( ), so I might be missing something.
But hey, if you're happy with going through the return/replacement route, then I really wish you good luck, and hope you get that pristine iMac...
And if I win the lottery, I'll send you some money!

The pictures are really not that clear (but to say you've got an odd thumb), and I'm not familiar with the Intel iMac either.
However, could it be that the casing wasn't properly assembled, and that a pin/protuberance inside is not set where it should be, twisting the casing so that parts are not flush anymore ?
I know that can happen on some machines, you can close them back and have the feeling all is in its place, but for an odd bump...
If you have an opportunity one day to open it, maybe you'll check that out.
However, your rebate is definitely worth the defect. It sucks you had to go through the hassle of 4 machines.

Read any packaging from Apple. Designed by Apple in California, manufactured in China. (Some smaller products manufactured in countries with even LOWER standards.)
That said, I hate chinese manufactured products. They always break on me.
