Finally bought my MBA from Naples and I settled for the 2gb because I could not justify the cost of the Ultimate and given the work I do 2gb should be fine - it feels pretty quick! Now after using it for a few days I am thinking that I should have got the 11.6 ultimate (I have spent ages in the store and have read all the 13v11 threads on here)

Just a quick question - if I wanted to swap it for a 11.6 - can this be done at any Apple Retail store or do I have to return to the same store (I am traveling around) - I still have the box and the receipt.

Any store will be ok. However if you take it to another store and have already opened it, they may charge you a 10% restocking fee, whereas the original store might be a little more lenient, but in anycase ymmv.

Also I can second that the NYC stores and and flagship store carry more configurations.

Well all of that is good to know--I'll probably not waste my time driving to Orlando. I really want a 13, 2GB with 128 drive--so online is probably the best bet. I'm sure having the ultimate as the only 4GB option in the store is no accident.

AFAIK, as long as you purchased at an Apple retail store, have the receipt and it is within the 14 day return period, you should be able to exchange for an upgrade at any Apple retail location provided the store has what you want (i'd imagine they can special order if you have the time here)...

I bought an ultimate last night at a local Apple Store... it was the only 4GB model they had in-stock or listed on the floor. It was a tough decision not to save $400 and order the 1.8Ghz / 128GB / 4GB model... especially since the 1.8Ghz / 128GB / 2GB models seemed impervious to my best attempts to bog them down, but I figure I'll appreciate the extra storage and horsepower in three years (if for no other reason, resale value).

Now I have to wipe, reinstall and sell my 3-year old 15" MBP.
