The reason is that VP9 (The codec that YT uses) is not supported by macOS, so Safari ignores the videos with that codec and if you try to use Chrome or even Bootcamp you will get bad performance as it needs to use Software decoder, instead of the Hardware decoder that intel includes in its 6th and above gen chipsets.

Hello,

I registered specifically for your post. So I am not the only one who has noticed the issue on Bootcamp. I don't understand why I can't use Hardware decoding with Bootcamp (Windows 10), the hardware is there. Both the Intel and Radeon GPU's have hardware support of VP9 since 2017. However Windows refuses to install the VP9 decoder for some reason and Chrome cannot enable hardware decoding for it, although it's runing on the Radeon Pro 560, which HAS HW support. Is Apple blocking it somehow ?
I really can't swallow watching FullHD videos on 4K or 5K monitors. Not to mention TV's.

Do you get a error message when trying to download the decoder?

Yep, that it is not supported on my hardware, which is very odd, since this is the mid 2017 Macbook Pro 15" with Radeon 560 and Intel Core i7 7820H(Skylake)

For some reason HDCP 2.2 is also not working(negotiating), I am not sure if it is driver related(bootcamp driver) or the USB-C -> DisplayPort Dongle.

Dropped Frames = 3 (as soon as I hit play, then 0)
Doesn't matter if you can play the video or not with dropped frames. You still don't have HW acceleration which means massive CPU load, battery usage and heat. Especially for laptop of such class, this sucks. Not to mention the lack of HDR support in the MacOS itself.

Where is the battery on my iMac?

I'm a video editor that has been using this machine to work with 4K footage every day (with effects). I'm pretty sure I'll be OK.

Also, it looked REALLY good. I might buy the game, get the mod now lol.

You might also try Opera (free).
