We do step by step instructions showing all the things needed in the correct order and some people don’t follow and get into trouble even when advised multiple times.

Mojave is a magnet to people that resist following instructions.

Lol. Ok I get it but i was trying to point out I'd just like to get everything working with the new card in high sierra before even attempting to upgrade to Mojave and people kept saying follow these steps for Mojave and I didn't want to do that just yet. I just want the new card working in high sierra first

Most people with NVIDIA GPUs are with obsolete/ancient Mac Pro firmwares. I presumed that was the case with you, you are half way, sorry for that.

Next time I’ll ask first, but the Mojave firmware upgrade instructions are valid for anyone, at least the first step, even if you don’t want to go to Mojave.

Right I’m really confused now. Like I said to get back to where I was I restored from a time machine back up from 0300 this morning and I’ve just taken a proper look at my desktop and it has all my hard drives on view but it has 3 items from my laptop desktop. How has this happened?? And when I click on my hard drives they have ? On the top bar.

How has something from my laptop home screen appeared on my Mac Pro. Not even switched the laptop on for a month

Right click in the menu bar area in finder and select CUSTOMIZE TOOLBAR, or View > Customize Toolbar. Drag default set into the toolbar. Often fixes this issue. May be a missing custom action or missing plugin toolbar icon that cannot be relinked correctly (like Dropbox or the Burn/Eject icon when CD/DVD drive is missing).

You have iCloud/file sync turned on?
Looks like Adobe Creative Cloud sync also turned on?
Either of these link to those original files?

you should be a little bit concerned with osX

and also the nvidia drivers uninstall, except
you want to continue using your GTX

and you can put the question mark while holding
the command key out of the window

System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive (Options) > uncheck DESKTOP & DOCUMENT FOLDERS
or System Preferences > iCloud > uncheck iCloud Drive

System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive (Options) > uncheck DESKTOP & DOCUMENT FOLDERS
or System Preferences > iCloud > uncheck iCloud Drive

Sorted! I’m having a nightmare this evening!

Right taken out the GT120 and installed the new RX590 and it’s all booted up fine. It recognises it as a Polaris in about this Mac but I’ve read it does this.

So what’s the next stage in my quest to now get to Mojave

CLONE YOUR EXISTING HIGH SIERRA DRIVE TO A SATA SSD OR SATA HDD BEFORE DOING ANYTHING. This should almost be required for troubleshooting purposes in the future. There's almost no excuse. You can find cheap SATA SSDs for under $30 these days.

Cloning the current main disk is not wise to do troubleshooting or firmware upgrades, a clean install is always the best course of action.

Wasn't suggesting to use it right now, more suggesting to have available in the future (once upgraded to Mojave). At least then there is something to turn to from a previous OS version that worked.

Unfortunately, too many people do not know how to perform a proper HS 10.13.6 clean install. Too many also can't follow those directions. It's pretty easy to use CCC and clone an entire drive. Fault is partially on Apple for making the process more difficult than to ever needed to be. Should be allowed to easily create USB installer media that actually works 100% of the time, even if limited to on-board USB2 only.
