So how does it work with the original?? Is it at least a bit speedier then the previous? Or does just make the original apple tablet even slower???

Improvement or not?

THANKS

I did the upgrade.

Appears to be much more stable then it was before with just 1OS5.

Very pleased!!

After the iOS 5.1 update my iPad 1 came back to life! Everything is speedier, works great just like iOS 4 used to work.

My iPad 1 is very much improved. Safari was crashing all the time, and since my update this afternoon it has been great. Speed is back up and I'm not getting the typing lag like I was. So far so good anyway.

I'm so happy with your reports, Mac Rumors users! I was ready to chuck my iPad 1 to my mom since she's had her eye on it for a while and just live without an iPad til later this year when I pick up the 3. Now with these great reports I feel confident that all my safari problems and lag issues will be gone. I also have a bookmark syncing issue that still hasn't been rectified, so hopefully now it will be!

Thanks!

The 3g on o2 doesn't work. They have said I need a new sim card. Now I have to go to a store and hopefully pick up a new card if they have one and have the contract transferred over. What a hassle. If this is the case every time there is an update to software I'll sell the ****** thing.

PS Will the new ipad be able to cope with software updates?

I just came to the board to see if anybody else was seeing the improvement I have.
Haven't had a crash in the two days since the update. Was dealing with 5+ Safari crashes a day beforehand.

I updated my iPad to iOS 5.1 and experienced no problems installing it OTA. I have experienced no problems with iOS 5.1 or my Apps since. Very smooth upgrade.

Update: after several days I had two web sites, including MacRumors forums, that failed to recognize my iPad and I had to enter my user name and password again. Not a big problem. Several other posters encountered this with their WiFi connection and App Store log-in.

5.1 on the iPad 1 was worth losing my jailbreak. Fewer app crashes. Glad I upgraded.

The lag on 5.01 was so bad I could type the whole search topic on the keyboard before it showed up in the search box. With 5.1 it is virtually straight away. I must admit the lag is what has caused me to upgrade to the new iPad. The day after ordering the new iPad the original iPad 1 has come to life again!!!!!

Oh well at least I have a new iPad coming

The iTunes app is actually usable again. In 5.0.1 it would crash constantly on my iPad 1.

Another thumbs up for iPad 1 performance. Easily the best its been since iOS 4. Music and Safari apps are great again. I'm personally forking out for a new one, but for anyone sticking with their 1, you can love it again.

My 1st gen iPad is a lot more stable and speedier with 5.1, but I'll be getting the new iPad on Friday so I'm not that bothered now :)
