The modern iPhone has a TON of stuff to do in the background after you first set it up, especially if you use iCloud for much of anything. The first day my iPhone was active it downloaded 120GB of my pictures in the background! Making any comments about the battery life in the first 1-2 weeks is pointless.

You should not have to turn anything off for you the 7 to last a typical day. Ridiculous.

Depending on your location, signal strength can vary greatly. For instance my home happens to be in a poor cellular reception area. So I use wifi calling so my radios are not burning up my battery. Turning off things you do not use or that compromises your privacy also makes perfect sense.

Why have the phone send location of every wifi network you pass by as you drive. Or search for and present advertising based on your location if you don't want or use that feature These features have on/off switches for a reason. Leaving everything on all the time for things I don't use seems ridiculous to me.

I customize my iPhone to suit what I do and for what my needs are. Some days I don't charge for two days, other times I charge twice a day. All depends on what I am doing, watching, etc.

You might want to try battery saving tips like these. You don't have to do every tip, but some are helpful to know what can cause battery drain.

Battery saving tips

1. Settings > WiFi > Disable Ask to Join Networks

2. Settings > Cellular > Enable LTE > OFF

3. Settings > Cellular > Go all the way to the bottom > Turn OFF Wi-Fi Assist

4. Settings > General > Spotlight Search > Turn OFF everything there

5. Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps > Turn OFF everything there

6. Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion > ON

7. Settings > General > Background App Refresh > switch it OFF

8. Settings > General > Date & Time > Turn OFF Set Automatically

9. Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Make sure all apps are set to "Never" or "While Using". Go to Share My Location and make sure it is OFF. Then go back to Location Services and go down to System Services and turn OFF everything there except for Find my iPhone/iPad/iPod.

10. Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness > Turn OFF Fitness Tracking

11. Settings > Privacy > Diagnostic & Usage > Check OFF Don't Send

12. Settings > Privacy > Advertising > Turn on Limit Ad Tracking, then press Reset Advertising Identifier

13. Settings > iCloud > Turn OFF anything here you don't use. I recommend turning OFF iCloud Drive, Everything in Photos, News, and Wallet.

14. Settings > App and iTunes Store > Turn OFF everything here.

15. Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data > Tap on anything here besides iCloud and set it to Manual.

16. Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Turn OFF Contacts Found in Mail

17. Settings > Messages > Turn OFF iMessage if you don't use it.

17. Settings > Messages > Turn OFF Send Read Receipts.

17. Settings > Messages > Turn OFF Group Messaging.

18. Settings > Facetime > Turn OFF if not used.

19. Settings > Safari > Turn OFF Preload Top Hit. Turn OFF Safari Suggestions. Turn OFF Quick Website Search.

20. Settings > Safari > Turn ON Do Not Track.

21. Settings > News > Turn OFF Cellular Data. Turn OFF Show Story Previews.

22. Settings > Music > Turn OFF Show Apple Music if you don't use it.

23. Settings > Music > Turn OFF Use Cellular Data.

24. Settings > Videos > Turn OFF Show iTunes Purchases.

25. Settings > Photos & Camera > Turn off everything here.

26. Settings > iBooks > Turn OFF Cellular Data. Turn OFF Sync Bookmarks and Notes. Turn OFF Sync Collections. Turn OFF Online Content.

27. Settings > Podcasts > Turn off Sync Podcasts. Turn OFF Cellular Data. Change Refresh Every to MANUAL.

28. Settings > Game Center > Tap on your email address > Sign Out

29. Settings > Notifications > Go into each app and turn off notifications for apps you don’t need notifications on. Adjust for the ones you want and turn off the show on lock screen. Constantly turning on your lock screen drains the battery

30. If you are using Facebook, go to account settings in the FB app and turn off autoplay in video and photos. This disables video post from playing when you scroll over them.

31. Settings > General > Siri> Hey Siri > switch it OFF if you don’t use it

This is the single most comprehensive list of battery saving settings that I have ever seen!

No need to do any of that. Just use it and charge while sleeping. I have never done anything special. Apple has put a lot of technology in your device so you do not need to do anything except use you device. Running your battery all the way down will not do anything except wear on the battery.

You don't have to, but it greatly depends on how you use your phone and other factors including signal strength.

Went to bed last night with 100%, woke up to 75%…
Something's not right there, and I suspect poor signal strength. Looking for a good signal all the time really drains a phone. I only lose 1-2% max when I sleep at night, but when my phone is in my desk at work (really bad signal strength) it can lose up to 20% just sitting there for a workday. "No signal" is then high on the battery use list.

I love how peoples suggestions is to start turning OFF features Apple boasts about in their keynotes... I have never understood this. Hey we have this new cool feature, but for proper battery life, you cant use it.

I came from 6s and the difference in battery has been pretty big, took my 7plus of the charger at around 8am this morning after charging all night, it's currently 3am and I still have 25% battery life, 19hrs standby - 8hrs usage. I'm pretty happy with its performance so far.
you have a plus.. not a regular. A bit irrelevant when you are walking with a battery that big.

Perhaps you use every feature available. Perhaps you don't mind your every move being tracked. As for me, and I suspect a large number of users, some features are not. Wing used so why have them eat up battery power broadcasting or searching?

Customizing my iPhone to match my lifestyle and usage makes perfect sense to me. I have lot's of lights and appliances in my home. Do I leave them all turned on, no that would be ludicrous. So if I am not using home kit, or health apps right now why leave those features running searching and consuming power.

Do I want iAds targeting me as I traverse the city? No, so I turn that off. I am very pleased that Apple has these customizable on/off switches. Just because Apple advertises a feature doesn't obligate me to use it for my total iPhone satisfaction.

Perhaps this perspective helps you understand. No one is advocating doing everything on a list. Pick and choose what makes sense for you. And if it saves a little battery power for something you do use, all the better.

My phone has died twice after 5,5 hours of usage and 12 standby now. Capacity of my battery is measured at 2100MaH. So what the hell.

Only using safari and messages. Funny thing is that the battery page shows messages as the culprit with 1 minute of background activity. Not this again, had this before on the i6 and it only went away when I unpaired my watch, even dfu restoring the phone en then setting up everything as new didn't help. Don't want this to be that problem because it sucks.

So; how is battery for you guys?

my iPhone 7 (not plus) can go for 7 hours of usage... over night my battery stays at the same percent as it was at evening before bedtime. for me my iPhone 7 battery is very good compared to my iPhone 6 :D
