Honestly, it's awesome at coding. It helps if you are already a developer so you can ask it the right kind of questions. But overall, it's a huge productivity booster. Also things like photo-editing it's been very valuable.
Absolutely, it makes your work 10x faster, so valuable, and in some cases lets you do things that were not possible before (talking about other LLM's too). And despite what some people say here, it does not replace you. You still need a master pilot who controls it and puts all the elements together.
What will cause layoffs (and is already causing them) are those people who will resist using AI for their work. They will simply be too slow compared to those who use them. It's like those people who didn't want to use a computer and just write on paper.

I just tried it and got: "I'm not sure how far away it is from Japan to Brazil by car, but it's about 10,554 miles as the crow flies."

I don't know why it has "away" in there either.
In my case, it very specifically mentioned "Brasilia in Brazil" - for no reason that I asked.

That's exactly what I got (see attached image). I'm not sure if the person you responded to was telling the truth. A screenshot could verify what the commenter said happened.

The "by car" is most likely in there because most people using Siri to ask a distance are likely wanting to map directions to it. For many of us that would be going by car.

I'm sorry, but I didn't see any reasons to use a $20 per month AI app (or even a freebie) in this "Five Reasons" listicle. Take a screenshot? C'mon.

What can AI do for me? Can it contact each of the subscription services I currently pay with my Apple Card and update the card's expiration date? No? Pity, that would have saved me an hour. Can give me a list of the grocery items I buy and add any currently available coupons to the store's loyalty app, or price check my shopping list between grocery store chains in my area? No? Pity, that would have saved me another hour. How about running through my Facebook feed and give me a summary, excluding advertisements? No? Well, that's my morning.

What can AI do for me?

Disclaimer, I have a ChatGPT subscription. I'm really looking forward to this application.

Why? Here's an example. I use Matlab a lot for my research, but I do not know the Matlab language. It's not something I really need to know to do my research.

Here's where ChatGPT came in. I needed to do something in Matlab the other day that required knowing some Matlab language. I found example code that was close enough to what I needed to do, fed that into ChatGPT asking for modifications for my specific use. After a little back and forth for about 3 minutes, I had code doing exactly what I needed to do.

This was to automate something I would otherwise have done manually (something that would take at least 30 minutes, maybe an hour, to do). Or, I could have found someone who knew Matlab to help me. I'm in academia (which means I don't just have money sitting around to pay someone to do it) and while I have colleagues who know Matlab who would be willing to help, it would take them some time to figure it out and get back to me -- pushing what I wanted to get done out some days or even weeks.

So in any case, no more than 5 minutes "talking" with ChatGPT saved me at least 30-60 minutes of tedious work or waiting some days for someone else to graciously help out.

I use ChatGPT almost daily. While I don't have a specific quantification of time it's saved me, my estimates so far is that it's saved me months of work over the past few months. Even more, it's allowed me to do things I would not have attempted because I don't have time or resources to learn or do a deeper dive into (Python|Matlab|R). It gives me more time for writing and getting things done, rather than having to spend a lot of time (or non-existent funds) getting someone else to do what I need for a one-time analysis.

Tell your friends to get useful jobs to society.

Don't worry it's a BS story anyway. No artists are losing work to AI. Whenever we look into these stories it's from an AI bro spreading tall tales because he doesn't want to be the only loser in the corner with an AI girlfriend.

There are AI stans going around on various platforms spreading absolute hatred and fear mongering towards creatives because they have never created anything in their lives and have a disdain for talent.

Outside of some photo editing…will anyone use any other AI features? Legit question

I think the code wrangling features are quite cool. I’d like to give that a try.

Probably won’t be asking it to rewrite my diatribe on late stage capitalism in the style of Mr Torque or anything like that though.

I used AI to generate some nice drawings of Bigfoot holding jars of peanut butter. So, it does have its uses.

I've been using LM Studio and an AI that I instructed to "respond to everything like you are Yoda, but on meth," but I think a ChatGPT desktop app will probably give better results... and Voice Chat is a nice feature. :p

Apple/Tim Cook missed out on AI. If Steve Jobs was still around, it would have been integrated already. Remember when he picked Wolfram Alfa? He already had an inkling of the future. I believe Siri came out right after he passed.

I suggest you look around before calling it BS. That doesn’t help this discourse saying I’m spreading BS. Get a clue. It’s happening. I even did it myself letting one of my artists go with the Photoshop Beta.
