Godda... I was panicing at a sec..

I almost forgot my password, and it asked me.. are you sure you want to buy an album????

I almost missed it!!!

Now the real question is... Who won????

hehehe..

cool!

Half-billion strong...and growing

So who can now plot the rate of growth since the iTMS was introduced? I'm really curious to see the current rate of growth.

I did a few tell a friend emails in the last few seconds. The Store slowed down dramatically. Apple.com also failed to load for the first time ever for me in the seconds after 500,000,000 was crossed.

Also, one of the two boxes near the bottom of the page has been replaced with an "Upgrade to Mac OS X 10.4.2" - something I don't think I've ever seen before. Pretty important upgrade if Apple is showcasing it on the main page.

I wonder who won? Anybody here?

Certainly not me. I clicked the buy now button, logged in, then the store thought about it for a while and then gave me an error. So I missed out unless the counter was higher than what had been sold (doubt it). While it was thinking about selling me the song about 1500 songs ticked off on the counter. Thanks Apple!

Purchases were at a few thousand songs per minute at the end. I predict that the rate will drop off sharply now! :p

I don't even know where to look if you won??

I think we have to be patient...

Even if I didn't win... I still would like to know what song # I bought..

Was I close? or was it way off??

or maybe I don't want to know that...

I think we all will learn to know #500 000 000 He/She will be on some sort of a press conference..

We'll have to be patient I guess..

I bought 13, in the final ten minutes. This has to be pretty good odds, compared to anything else out there. I mean, within a few thousand odds isn't bad.

Probably wouldnt want to know which # you downloaded, imagine having the 500,000,001st download

I think the official rules said that we should expect 3 days before the winner is announced. Similar to the last promotion, no?

I purchased an album of 11 songs when there were just a couple hundred left till 500. If I liked U2 enough I would have gotten the Complete U2.

I was impressed that, despite selling something like 150 songs per second near the end, Apple's servers kept up when I went to my shopping cart or tried searching the store, and downloads were not noticeably slower than usual.

Correction to my earlier claim to have purchased 78 songs: My wife wanted one, just to have particpated, so we bought one more for a total of 79. I'm 78 times more likely to win that she is, but you never know! :D

Very true. I recall last year the iTMS began blacking out at 100,000 marks. Kudos to Apple for their server stability.
