Battery life can be above average (not great), I'd admit that in comparison to a 15PM or 24U... those users will get a better battery life. But in terms of heavy and thick... I don't think that's an area to criticize a foldable. The Fold 6 weight is just as similar to that of a S24U.
Compared to the latest iphone, it's 50% thicker when folded and 10% heavier, so I'd still argue that portability and pocketability suffers significantly.

That's after they've had to compromise on the build materials, falling back to aluminum instead of steel or titanium.
And folks focus on camera angle... but I don't think it's as bad as the critics make it out to be. Would I prefer better camera technology in a foldable? Absolutely! But when you look at the OnePlus Open it has some flagship camera technology.
Cameras are one of the main reasons people even upgrade their phone nowadays. Not having a top notch camera system in a $2000 phone is just inexcusable.

And OnePlus cameras have been mediocre at best for years now - the Open is no exception to that unfortunately.

Personally, if it weren't for the cameras, I'd just buy an iPhone mini and use it until it crumbles under my fingers..
What are we judging performances on... benchmarks? And I have no issues when it comes to multitasking... I can see content perfectly fine when viewing multiple apps on screen.
Since it's roleplaying a tablet - I'm judging it by the industry standard for tablets, which is Apple's M chips now.
For that price, I don't want less than half the performance.

Because for that price, I could as well buy the latest iPhone Pro with an iPad Air (or last gen Pro even?).
And I use the S-Pen daily, no damage screen to report.
Is that the S-pen specifically designed to be retractable to prevent you from scratching the screen?

Because to me, that smart pen experience is not even in the same ballpark as using the Apple Pencil on any of the latest iPads, as far as the overall feel & features go...
I had the Fold 4 on release date (August 2022) ... could have kept it easily for another year (no service support was necessary throughout ownership), decided to upgrade to the Fold 6 because of the design.
I'm glad you had a better long term experience with yours than a lot of people I've seen talk about it. Because apparently durability is not to be taken for granted here as we're used to.

I think if there's any chance Apple makes something like this, then at the very least they'd want to find a way how to make the inner screen glass first.
Maybe something like 90% glass somehow fused with plastic at the hinge to allow it to fold.. don't know.

But I have a hard time imagining Apple shipping an uber-expensive foldable phone with the durability of a FineWoven case :)
The most popular apps in the world are: TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Temu, etc. Not phone dialer.
I meant as a smartphone.

And funny you mention those, because about half those apps scale like garbage on the square-aspect ratio fold screen.

I will probably buy a folding iPhone if and when it comes out. At the moment I have an iPad mini, iPad Pro and iPhone pro max so I have other devices to use if I want a bigger screen to watch a video or do something on. I don’t really count the Mac as it’s not as portable compared to a phone or tablet. I guess the selling point of a folding phone is that you only need to carry one device with you and you don’t have to make the conscious decision of carrying an iPad with you. You just take your phone and you’re good to go.

Some people just buy that phone just for the bigger display for watching videos if nothing else.
The video won’t be bigger though right? You get bigger black bars. So those people buy fold for bigger black bars.

Upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max is rumoured to have 6.9 inch screen. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 has 7.6 inch inner screen. Now, how is the extra 0.7 inches worth all those compromises that foldable phones have? You’re paying top dollar for a device that is compromised in every way for little bit an extra screen real estate. I’m trying be open minded but still it’s hard for me to underatand.

I think you need to look at your measurements again, there's a huge difference in size.

It's like going back to when people said the iPad Mini was pointless as it's only a "little bit" bigger than the Pro Max line.

I’m well aware of the screen real estate and I still think it’s not enough especially because of the square display. Usually we compare screen sizes in diameter here, and manufacturers also, no one talks about the square inches. But with Fold we are suddenly talking about square inches because it’s the only way to make the slightly bigger compromised screen look better on paper.

I have no issue carrying around the Fold 6... it's not as if I have a struggle holding it or placing it in my pocket lol.

I agree, camera is one of the main reasons people upgrade. And this argument continues... "hey I want top notch camera system in a $2000 phone." But dismiss everything else that's in the package... two 120hz displays (one being foldable), three areas of camera arrays (inner & outer selfie and main) and most importantly the hinge.

Since it's roleplaying a tablet - I'm judging it by the industry standard for tablets, which is Apple's M chips now.

I have an iPad Pro... enjoy using it. But the Fold 6 is my favorite device... the miniature tablet is appealing, and I can do the similar task that I do on the iPad Pro. Only thing missing is the apps... which we all know the App Store has better dev support.

Yes, the tip is retractable preventing from damaging the screen. But smart pen experience is debatable. I can do a lot more with my S-Pen than with the Apple Pencil. It's a different experience between the two... for drawing, I'd pick up the Apple Pencil... obviously for the bigger display with the iPad.

But navigating around the OS, the S-Pen provides a better experience.

I think if there's any chance Apple makes something like this, then at the very least they'd want to find a way how to make the inner screen glass first.

I think it's much ado about nothing. There's plenty of foldable phones out in the industry... the technology is improving. I'm anxious to see what Apple plans are for in the foldable industry, whether they make a tablet or phone foldable that's up for debate too.

Perhaps, they do some kind of Surface Duo-like device... or maybe the Surface Neo that didn't make it to the market.

A square display, split in half is two rectangles. This allows the user to run two apps at the same time.

We’re taking square inches because foldables offer at least 60% more display area. Aspect ratios have not changed significantly since the first iPhone.
