At my work we just got an 8tb system. Wait till they can fit a tbyte into your laptop, than it would be worth it...

I remember the days when they were saying "Wait til they can fit a gigabyte into your laptop...". Of course, laptops were about the size of Wales back then  .

Your right about 60GB being enough for most users. But if you're seriously into movie editing, or creating a digital multimedia hub, then it won't be. Movies take up A LOT of space.

Well, my first MacBook had a 60GB HDD. I soon realised that this would not be enough in the long term. The original MacBook was 2.0GHz stock. I sent it back, replaced it with the specs below, and I consider it an upgrade (more RAM & HDD space).

In hard drive manufacturer speak, a 60 GB hard drive is really only 55.9 GB. They use the decimal system for a gigabyte (10^9) while your computer uses the hard drive with the binary system for a gigabyte (2^30). Then you lose some to formatting and then you get to install the massive OS with possibly many unneeded languages, printer drivers, and software packages. Then you want to keep 10-15GB free for virtual memory. 60 GB isn't so large when you look at it that way.

I have 3 full 80gb drives and an almost full 500gb drive.

Definitely get more space, you'll appreciate it in the long run.

60GB is not much space. My wife has a MB with 60 GB and it is good for her, but I have over 100 GB of tv show from the iTunes. What I did with my laptop was purchase an external drive to keep it all on. Don't spend 100 on a 20 GB upgrade just purchase an external you get more disk space.

No, 60GB is not enough HDD space nowadays. :)

I concur unless the only thing you do is view website and do word processing. I have a 60GB HD on my macbook and I cant wait to upgrade.

Here is a little tip, besides using an external HD. I use my PC desktop's large HD on my wireless network for storing music/videos the transfer speeds are fine if you want to watch videos or play music. I guess my PC desktop still has some use to me lol

Personally,

personally, I would go with the stock 60gb, and get an external with the money I saved over anything bigger.

In the next 3-6 months, 100gb drives will drop in price and we will be able to UPGRADE them and then sell the 60gb drive.

Advantages of external are:
Cost per MB is much cheaper, a nice external with usb. 2.0 can be had for 80$ for a 250GB drive.

It can act as a storage device AND complete backup solution for the MAC.

Can be transported and used with other computers. All good in my book.
