I do not feel like I am or have ever been ripped off by Apple....... 😜
You get what you pay for.
I will always go for quality over price, when it comes to tech.

Intel aren't going to sit on this for too long, you'll see them crank out something for Mac Pro rev b. But do keep in mind that Threadripper can't pass 128GB or RAM(maybe a little more with this current one)

No they won't. Intel is done and it will take years to catch up to AMD..

Never count on intel being out. Neither systems have been out long enough to form long term performance metrics. Synthetic benchmarks are great for marketing fluff and bragging rights; not much else.

So far I am very happy with the performance of the Mac Pro 16-core; and I basically have a minimal system at the moment. Planning for more RAM very soon, or at the very least another 16GB so I get 6 ch. performance.

Now if I could only figure out how to hack the latest nVidia Web drivers to work with Catalina and the 1080ti from my Hack.... ;)

Enlighten me please, what has Intel over AMD in terms of quality NOW? (not decade ago, but now)

I can sympathise with that. I remember when Apple switched to Intel and not AMD despite AMD having advantage over Intel in pretty much most areas. I remember the time and how I was amazed why Intel when it seemed that Intel is done. Then Intel came up with Core Duo, Core 2 Duo etc. and suddenly Intel was back in the game and left AMD in the dust for few years.
However, despite this being similar I do worry as Intel has been struggling past few years and all that comes out from them is tiny in progression. No more Tick Tock but more like tiny tock tock tock :)
So in reality, I would like Apple to switch to ARM and design their own as I feel ARM has massive potential.
Desktop/Server class ARM with the same cooling will do wonders. Once the software developers recompile (which I'm sure Apple will make easier this time) Apple will leave everyone behind and will be ahead of them all.
That is actually my desire for now :)

Just curious what the purpose of these sorts of threads is. Do I wish I could get a super-fast AMD processor in a Mac that costs a fraction of an Intel processor? You bet. Is that something Apple is going to offer any time soon? Not likely.

It seems like these posts (and similar comments on other threads) are just supposed to make me feel bad or stupid that I'm getting ripped off by Apple for preferring to buy a workstation that runs the Mac OS.
They can also be informative to those who may not be aware of alternatives which could lead to pressure being applied to Apple to consider alternatives. It's my opinion such pressure resulted in the Mac Pro. Without it I feel the iMac Pro would be the top Macintosh offering.

And if enough people bitch and make a stink, it might motivate Apple to consider AMD in future iterations. Dont ask. Dont get.
