ouch man you wann be quiet, people are listening and arn don't like it on public board, just a word of warning :D

why the f*ck is everyone getting these developer seeds, or beta versions of 10.2.1???

If builds of Apple's OS's run rampant like they have since Jaguar, I'd expect tighter serial control...

I never download or install any beta OS software... I just don't trust it. If you have the time, and can afford to lose all your data, go ahead, but the mass downloading of these builds seems kinda bad...

Just my 2¢

yeah.. i agree..

after installing that you may not be able to upgrade to newer releases (even minor ones).. for instance, you cant upgrade from 6C48 to jaguar final..

G4scott is right, i dont know why you would install a pre-release x.x.1 release that you found on carracho. you're going to piss apple off to the point of serial numbers and you obviously have no concern for your machine. if bugs are a problem, re-install 10.1, or use 9 for goodness' sake. do you honestly expect a beta os patch from an anonymous source to fix problems? i'm willing to run lots of beta software on my computer, but operating systems are a whole different matter.

When you're learning to solder, you often burn yourself. These burns teach you valuable lessons. Some might say "Why would you need to solder anything?", others might say "How can you call yourself a computer user if you can't solder?". Its about the adventure to some and the destination to others :)

i find it baffling why people are so quick to criticize things they dont understand. jeez people lighten up. i guess it is fun to sign on to the net and blindly attack people who do things differently than you do, but before you fire off your ignorant mouths at least check who you are attacking and where you are. these are the people delivering rumors to you, and i assume you are interested in rumors seeinga s you are at macRUMORS.com. if you are so anal and paranoid perhaps you shoudlnt be reading these forums at all. stay at home and wait for apple to tell you what they are doing and wait for apple to tell you what to think about it.

and jeez people get your facts straight too. you act like you have some unknown information that you are imparting on all of us. we are the people who know the most about computers, we arent blindly downloading and installing stuff. we fool around with things, and figure them out. i have a computer and a partition specifically for betas. i run all my betas oses and software on it. all of my data is on 3 separate hard drive son three separate computers and on cd. all of my data is on separate partitions from all of my oses. i know what i am doing. i investigated the package, checked its authenticity installed it on my beta computer/partition checked the bugs im tracking and shut it down.

if you dont understand what, why, or how people are conducting themselves dont be so quick to attack. it is insulting and doesnt make it likley that people will share information (whether it be rumors or trouble shooting) in the future.

burn your bridges elsewhere, i for one appreciate people who go the extra mile to check things out so as to learn and share information.

i'll remember that when i'm typing in my serial number, or maybe i'm just being ignorant. i dont feel like starting a shouting match over this. sorry for the rant and smart ass comment, but i can't just walk off with my tail between my legs, it's not good form ;)

is putting in a serial that bad, or will it conflict with your pirated version of MAC OSX ?
whats so bad about putting a serial in, a 15 digit number, wahhh thats was painfull

psh get a grip, its serial number its not hard to put in

I just hope that everyone who does download 10.2.1 plans to buy it, or plans to buy an Apple update in the future. Because if you aren't you are doing Apple more harm than good. Beta test all you like, but be aware that if Apple doesn't get paid for its work, it may stop working altogether.

Gimme a break... 10.2.1 as well as 10.2.2 (yes that is a FACT we will see 10.2.2 and sooner rather than later from what I hear) will be FREE! Sofware update makes it easy for Apple to churn out fixes very quickly and that is exactly what they have been, are and will continue to do. Six months waitng for dot (or in the case of X dot dot) releases are a thing of the past and instead of having just one or two dot (dot dot) releases before the next paid update this new OS will have far more. 10.1 had 5 of them and I'd be willing to bet that 10.2 will see at least 5 before we get major wind of the Panther release being ready.

As for bug tracking.. here are some of the major ones I'm waiting for fixes on:

- CD Burning (windows support is broken)
- SMB Browsing (beyond the local subnet)
- dot files littering Windows file shares (yuck I really hope that's gonna get fixed soon)

Can you tell I work at a place with lots of Windows machines? ;)

Dave

Even though those will be free, I hope you aren't just upgrading a previously pirated version of 10.2.0. Because you aren't going to get the same thing. Apple has 1000 developers working on Jaguar in their place alone. For all those of us who paid because we don't trust pirated software, you are being unfair if all you do is pirate software. I ruined my system once too many with pirated software and never will pirate again. It is a matter of principle, matter of integrity, and a matter of doing the right thing. Those who just pirate are doing Apple no good.

And furthermore, Apple had to lay off people recently. I wouldn't be surprised if due to pirating it wasn't able to manage to bring money to those people in time. If you want software this good to be produced in the future, you should pay for it.

its very odd, but after getting my dual gig, 10.2 performs kind of strangely. when the computer starts up it shows the question mark folder before showing the spinning dashes. then warcraft3 unexpectedly quits 3 times, as does Explorer, and medal of honor. sometimes when i restart, my desktop reverts to the factory settings. While my 10.1 never froze ever, i had 10.2 freeze to the extent that i had to unplug it. Is anyone else having these problems or did i get a lemon?

It's a bug? I hadn't noticed any problems reading CD-R's burned on 10.2 with Win2K.

Yeah, there is a thread on the Macworld forums that detail it pretty well. One of their lab guys tested it and found that if you burn a data CD via Disc Burner and put files inside of folders, then Win2k and XP will not be able to read inside the folders. If you just put files on the CD without folders, there is no problem.

From my own experience I burned a CD with folders and my W2k machine at work could not open the folders. I haven't tried a CD without folders yet. Anyway, I hope the fix is forthcoming...
:(
