I've been on my iPhone 6 since launch and its recently started to show its age - cracked screen, still running 10.3.3.

Having a hard time deciding on either one of these for around ~300-350. The newer models aren't really screaming at me as far as they've come. My phone works mostly fine just wanting a slight bump in performance and change instead of just repairing the screen. I'm also leery of updating to iOS 11 out of fear it'll run like crap on 1gb RAM.

Would buying either one today still make sense ? I have seen new prepaid iPhone SE's for 150 which I'd imagine could be unlocked by an indie shop spending another 50-100, total $250.

Either of these phones are still wonderful.

Both of my parents have the 6S Plus and they are still very snappy and meets there needs. I also think the 6S is a decent speed upgrade over the 6.

My cousin has an SE and it's also a great phone. Honestly, I've considered buying an SE to have as a backup / secondary phone to use in certain situations / places.

I had the 6s plus and did exactly this. Within a week, my SE became my main phone and I sold the 6s plus. I am still extremely happy with this decision. Yes, I miss the big screen (I do have an iPad mini 4 tho) but other than that, the SE has been the PERFECT phone for me.

6s plus is still a great phone. I still have mine as a back up phone to my 8+ though my wife is annoyed since I promised her I would sell it off to put towards my 8+

Just keeping hidden in the closet and she'll forget all about it ;)

I change phones every 3 years, so I'd imagine this next one to last at least 2 given what I'd be spending.

The omission of a headphone jack is enough for me to stick with a 6S/SE or I'd be looking into Androids, haven't since most of them are huge. 3D touch is something I haven't had so I won't necessarily miss it on the SE. None of the design or performance jumps on the 7/8/X are worth the cost of admission for what I use my phone for.

I'm a bit worried about sluggish performance with future updates; can we be optimistic that it'll get better than worse? or is that naive to expect?

Nah i doubt it the a9 is a beast of a deck. Hell even some androids cannot outpace it in single core tests. Do remember the iPhones A9 onwards hve been making leaps in performance technology and what not so you should be fine with it. Id say at least to ios 13-14+ unless they dont offer anything compelling for your usages then you could stick with ios11.

I was playing a demo iphone se in store today n omg its still snappy af for a 2 year old chip and ios11 butchered my iPad mini 2 which was an a7 chip

I have a 6s that is updated to the most recent IOS and it runs fine. Battery life is acceptable for me, maybe I just have low expectations.:)

bumping this as I'm trying to gauge an acceptable price for a used 6s 64gb; granted some if not most would need a new battery service driving the overall cost up. unfortunately haven't seen any refurbs online either.

I LOVE my 128gb 6s and have no plans to upgrade in the foreseeable future. I've had it since launch and just had the battery replaced for free by Apple under the Unexpected Shutdown Battery Replacement program yesterday, so that should extend it's life at least another couple of years!

When looking for a new one, you might luck out and get an original that is eligible and hasn't had the battery replaced yet, which would get you a free battery. Would be hard to know without the serial number, though.

I missed out on a new 6s on Swappa I'm kicking myself over..:(

What's the likelihood of a used one being eligible for the battery replacement?

It would have to fall under the recall program in order to get the battery replacement. The Only way of knowing that, is by the serial number to determine the manufacturer date.

after more reading, found the 6s has MIMO and LTE Advanced which the SE lacks. I still get band 12 for T-Mobile which i don't have on my 6 on either one

are these things that'll make a difference in connectivity/speed in today's world? found this article which is now dated but would think is more applicable now.

Speedtest on my WiFi—SE about 99.9 mbps download, 6s 108-117

thread update - bought a new 128gb 6s over the holiday, got $125 credit from the 6 I traded. ultimately I couldn't live without a headphone jack and the SE didn't have LTE-A which was a must.

so far so good minus some iOS 11 quirks. phone is much snappier and 3D touch is really convenient.

I just ordered a few iPhone 6s 128gb phones from GameStop to sell one and pass to a couple of friends who wanted one. I know they are used, but with the B2G1 deal they have, they come out to just $255 a piece after taxes. Even for 2 gens back, seems like a good value for a phone that should still be decent for another year or two (assuming they are all in decent condition of course).

6s is the best phone I've had (3GS & 5 prior + a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini).

It's a great balance of screen size, thinness, & modern features (3D Touch), Wifi/Cellular speed support, fast CPU. & if you want a headphone jack, it's the last iPhone that had it.

I've loved using it for just over 2 years now & will hold onto it as a very solid & dependable backup phone after I upgrade (I've kept all my iPhones anyway).

does GameStop sell these unlocked? completely overlooked them before but bought an ipod classic there years ago.

I hope this holds up well over time because at the time this is rendered useless, hopefully wireless IEM's are more reliable.

Just my stance on Gamestop, but they would be one of the last retailers I would buy a used phone from. They don't inspect things thoroughly as they should.

outside of official Apple refurbs, is there anywhere else that does a thorough job? out of availability and pricing, GameStop wouldn't be the worst option imo..

GameStop doesn't inspect the devices as they should, just like the rest of the hardware they accept for trade. They don't care, they just want the business. Part of The problem is because the quality employees they hire that are poorly trained and simply don't care about inspecting and testing. The only guarantee that you will receive from GameStop is a basic return period.

Well, for me, the GameStop refurbs have been really good or excellent I'd say at least 90% of the time. A couple I've had to send back due to damage.

Today I received 3 of those 6s 128gb Verizon iPhones from them today. They all had battery life in the 79% to 83% range. Checked the serial numbers and 2 of the 3 qualified for the free shutdown replacement. Took them all to the local Apple Store Genius Bar, had them all replaced with brand new batteries and only had to pay the $29+ tax on the one that didn't qualify. Now all 3 look just like new and have zero battery cycles on them.

I would like to know what people do that the SE cannot do?
3D Touch. Wash dirt off my phone under tap. Enjoy the speedier processor. The keyboard on 4.7" is much more accurate for me (discovered after extensive testing at Apple Store). Enjoy the larger screen size. Enjoy the better screen colors/display.

So basically nothing.
