Did anyone else see anything strange when upgrading to 10.6.5? While the upgrade was running, I have lots of random black static lines running across my display. Looks just like the video graphics problems others have posted. I've never seen that before. After the upgrade it seems to have stopped. Did anyone else see something like this?

Well, I've never heard of a rule, that calls app that go over 1GB - memory leak.
Yet you can take my word that both Firefox (3.6) & Shiira did go at least over 1.5GB on me, not even once ...

Nothing you have posted is evidence of a memory leak in any application. It doesn't matter anyway, because even if an app is leaking memory, all you need to do is quit the app and the memory will be reclaimed. A reboot is not necessary.

Why my Air (2.13, 4GB, 256SSD) takes 23 sec before 10.6.5 and about 40 sec after update???:eek:
Is there something wrong with my Air?

MBA Ultimate

I know when I got my MBA and Imac, they both were on Network under Startup Disk in System Preferences. I changed it to Mac OSX(the other choice) and they both started much faster. Just a tip.

Anyone notice a reduce in memory usage since upgrading?

Also for slow boots - did everyone try rebooting more than once? The 1st boot after an update might have stuff occurring so I wouldn't place too much emphasis on timing that, its subsequent reboots after that.

1. Go to user accounts in system preferences, and turn off all the crap thats firing up at the startup.. ex iTunes helper, etc..
2. Repair permissions. Utilitties folder, Disk utility, selct your boot drive, repair permissions.
3. Stop Bitching!

I wanted to share my experience with the 10.6.5 upgrade on bootup time. So, in my case, the bootup time lengthened to 30 sec after the upgrade. Doing everything suggested in the thread DID NOT help; they included:
- restating a few times;
- repairing permission;
- resetting PRAM;
- removing all startup tasks (login items);

Finally, I just left it for an hour (powered on). When I came back, it restarted in 12 seconds.

Any updates on this issue? I have a similar problem with my MBP i7

I just installed a vertex2 (120gb) SSD and was getting 13 second boot times with a fresh install of 10.6.3, then immediately after I updated to 10.6.5, boot times are now 23 seconds.

I reset the PRAM, permissions repairs, many reboots, and left the computer on all night long, still constantly 23 second boots.

I'm thinking of formatting my SSD again, and just sticking with the fresh 10.6.3 install.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Never noticed a change in my bootup time, but then again, I was running 10.6.5 pretty much since I booted up my Air, the first time. Never used this machine with 10.6.4.

My startup time went from 13 secs to over 30.
Reformatted and reinstalled OSX, and then transferred all data back from my Time Machine backup.
Since then I'm back to 13 secs.

Startup time is way down my list of performance issues... maybe at the bottom. How often do you boot? Does 5, 10, 30 extra seconds of boot time really matter if you only boot your machine on average once a week, once a month?

Bootcamp user. I boot up all the time. On the other hand, my air has been on 10.6.5 since the beginning and it typically cold boots between 12 or 13 seconds. That's pretty painless.

My startup time got a little longer after installing the update. However after some normal startups and shutdowns (maybe 6 of them?) it went back to normal.
