A 1080i/p camera would cost more, which would lessen Apple's profit margin.

That's really all it is. Kinda sad. Other companies care about profit too, but don't stoop to the level of ridiculousness Apple does with crap like this. I was just pricing a sub $1,000 laptop and noticed it had a 1080 cam

Seriously. Go to an Apple store and compare the thickness of the lid of the new model laptops with the thickness of that laptop you are looking at. These lids are razor thin - the area where the camera is housed in the rMB is 2.5mm thick! The iPhone 7 is 7mm!

My issue with the non-1080p camera is iMovie video capture. It's a lot easier to pop the lid open and do a vlog post than to stage my hi-def camera and import the file.

However, I think this may be part of the decision to keep this camera res a low priority. 720p throttles the fans in my i7 2013 Mac Air. This gets annoying in Skype, and I can imagine that Handling 1080p in live stream would generate a lot of heat.

It has to be for size. The cost would surely be negligible; and considering they included a 3.5 headphone jack because this is a 'pro machine', one would think 1080p would make the grade if it were possible.
