I’ve said that many many times yes. I actually bought the 8+ not the 8 and I felt it offered enough compared to the more expensive iPhones which were not out of my range financially, I just didn’t see the need to spend silly money on a phone that essentially does the same thing as an iPhone £500 cheaper.

I had the option of the XR too which I waited for until I made my choice. For me the XR wasn’t as good as the 8+ despite being around the same price. Others may disagree but it’s personal preference.

Reading the post you’ve quoted of mine I mention ‘decent price’ which was me once again highlighting that price is a major factor.

Definitely agree with all of this :)

I prefer the wider LCD screen of the 8+ with 1080p and a proper 16:9 aspect ratio for watching content without black bars. I also prefer TouchID > FaceID too.

Finally price is a huge factor as I never want to encourage the ‘$1,000-and-up!’ nonsense that phone manufacturers seem to now think they can get away with

The 8+ would be my choice as it’s a beast of a phone and can be picked up for a very decent price. Battery life, camera, screen etc are all excellent and it’ll be a good phone for a few years yet. Probably the best for what it offers right now I’d say and it’s the reason I chose it at my last upgrade.

Except its too big for me. I am struggling with the Xr but like FID.

The big phones aren’t to everybody’s taste I quite agree. My wife absolutely hates my 8+ and says it’s unusable for her and she has an iPhone 8. I have a feeling she’ll have it for quite a few years unless Apple makes a reasonable sized iPhone again.

The 8 is my favourite size phone, seriously thinking of swapping back, my wife has a 8 plus and likes it.

Welp, in a bizarre twist, I just ordered a silver Xs and will pick it up in an hour or so. Figure I have 14 days to decide if it's worth it, so no real loss trying it out. If it's not flawless, it's going right back.

Decided pocketability still mattered and I just didn't want to buy a phone that was going on 2 years old, and really I would like FaceID, so Xs it is.

Hope you got a real good offer for the Xs as Apple seems to try everything to lift up the sales of the overpriced 2018 iPhones (especially now after the Galaxy S10 phones arrived). Maybe you should even wait till fall because the 2019 iPhones are only half a year away. The iPhone 8 is only one generation behind and a really good phone. I always skip at least one generation of any tech device if I buy something new...

This Xs has a perfect build but my god the screen couldn't possibly be any warmer. True tone off, night shift off, auto brightness off. Screen is nice and even, brightness about the same as 8 or very very close, but not even close to as crisp white as my 8, and that wasn't even close to the whites on my 6 prior.

I'll compare to my wife's Xs when she gets home from work.

The 8 and the Xs are both supposed to be calibrated to 6500K. At some point this yellow crap has to go back the other way a bit.

I just tried an XR for a day and returned it. I don't like the looks of the XS and especially concerned about the durability of the finish around the edges.

I will say though that this Xs probably has a really color accurate screen, even with true tone off the white point is like a sheet of paper. Although I like a cool screen, I could definitely understand how someone might really like the calibration on this particular example.

Based on my experience, and how my eyes perceive Apple’s displays, their LCD displays tend to be more crisp, white and Stark, compared to the OLED panels manufactured by Samsung, the calibration to me seems more warm-er, but considerably brighter.

I just finished setting it up as a new phone, painstakingly doing the usual old phone in left hand, new phone in right hand and going through the entire phone, setting by setting, menu by menu and it is now set up. I'm getting used to the warmer tone of the new phone now, and it seems to be just the way they are - my wife's which was bought back in October and manufactured in another factory is basically identical in terms of white point. As someone who likes a plain white background with all my apps in 4 folders at the top, good whites are important to me...but then again that background is going to absolutely suck the battery life out of this phone, might have to switch to plain black and enjoy the inky black and power savings, but I'll see how it goes over the next few days as the phone indexes and calms down.

Overall I'm happy with it, it's a really nice phone, solid build, and I plan to keep it. I do hope though that next time around, the color temp goes back the other way a bit - it's been too many builds in a row trending warmer and warmer, eventually it has to stop or it's just going to be yellow.

In other news, Face ID is great but anyone who doesn't think it could be a tad faster still is kidding themselves. Also, this feels like an $800, *maybe* $850 phone. $1000 is really stretching it.

EDIT: Sure is pretty though -

I went from the 8 to the Xr.

I had intended to keep the 8 until this coming September. I actually joked the day before the keynote that I’d only upgrade if they released a phone I. The style of the X, in blue for under £800. I instantly loved the Xr.

In terms of usability the Xr isn’t a gigantic upgrade. The extra screen is nice. The notch is jarring at first when you’re not used to it but it quickly becomes a non issue.

The camera is better. By far.

Face ID is IMHO just as quick as Touch ID. I think it’s failed twice since o got the phone (day after launch).

I honestly love the Xr. It’s my dream iPhone. All those threads asking what’s your dream etc is basically describe the Xr. I LOVE this phone. I intend to keep it for at least three years.

That said, if you have fallen for it like I did get one. You won’t regret it. If not then stick with the 8.
