Location consumes a lot of battery.
It annoys me a lot that e.g. weather widgets absolutely need the location or the weather widget on the lock screen.

I would also like to be able to set the intervals at which apps are allowed to locate (every hour, every 3 hours, etc.).
Yes, touching base with location at set intervals would be a saver - in some situations - and a setting for that with. default settings for off/on too.

Why do Android phones have so much better battery lives though? Everybody says that iPhones are optimised etc yet Androids last longer.
I've been thinking about purchasing an Android phone.
I have an Android (Samsung Flip4) and battery life is terrible, even with as few features turned on as possible.

The ones that do have good battery life just have huge batteries. The S23 Ultra for instance is like 5000mAh.

My Flip has a 3700mAh battery and my iPhone 15 lasts much longer with just 3350mAh

That’s optimization

Does anyone know if switching voice and data from 5G auto to LTE increases battery life? I haven’t seen it listed on several of the battery saving articles I’ve read recently. I know 5G is a very desirable feature of phones; but, I don’t notice a difference in internet speed based on my phone usage, in fact, my signal seems more reliable. I mostly keep 5G off on my 15 PM and feel that my battery lasts longer; however, I’ve not actually tested it.

I like the fact I can prevent my iPhone 15 Pro Max from charging beyond 80%. I don't tend to use 50% in one day, and keeping the battery percentage between 30% and 80% all the time should help its longevity.

I actually read each post here…

Lots of conflicting opinions — and duplicative, unoriginal snark! 🙈 Of the form:

🚫 📱 ❌ = ✅ 🔋

Truly surprised that no one mentioned one of the biggest battery savers — turning down brightness. One gets used to a less bright, less glaring screen very quickly.

Airplane Mode, which was mentioned, is, for those of us who don't need to be connected 24-7, a big boost, too.

From my old iPod Touch days, turning off Background Refresh and Location Services, which were both mentioned, are the other members of a good quartet.

Still, for those who want to go all-in on everything iPhone, and never have to fret about battery life, carrying around a supplemental battery pack is a good idea.

Actually it should. LTE should use less battery. Read the info under the 5G and 5G auto settings. It pretty much says so.

If I turn off everything the article says it’ll be a dumb phone
If necessary just use a portable battery pack or power bank instead

There should be a wall of shame for apps which drain battery.

Microsoft Teams, native Apple Mail (even at idle/standby), Facebook, LinkedIn, etc are awful.

Chrome is also bad, but I only have myself to blame based on active usage.

Also… I’ve found that wireless charging isn’t bad, but CarPlay was likely responsible for 80% of battery degradation on my 14 Pro (due to heat, network usage, and possible overcharging while draining). Since I gave it to my daughter - she doesn’t drive - the battery remaining life has remained stable.

Stop worrying about the battery..

if you got well over $1000 to buy an iphone 15 pro or pro max, get apple care, pay the monthly service fee from the carrier, buy screen protectors and cases, then after about 2 years, you got about $100 to get a new battery..
Assuming you are even keeping the phone..

Can someone make a list on how to improve battery life on the following items??

my car
My oral B rechargeable toothbrush
My beard trimmer
my remotes to TVs
my wireless bluetooth speakers and airpods
my lawn equipments like leaf blower and chainsaw

If you do not travel a lot, you do not have to use location services for the weather app to have the widget working, just long press on the weather widget, settings and select "city xy" instead of "current location" and the widget will start showing the weather (of your city) instead of "location services disabled"
This even works with Windy.com widgets, nice. Good tip.

I don’t understand that there is no outrage that that software feature is reserved for current Pro buyers and nobody else. People complain about everything but not this?

If we’re already in the realm of micro managing, how about turning of Hey Siri? Or step counting and the likes of you already have an apple watch.

i like how, in order to save battery life, you have to disable every feature they’ve released over the last like 4 updates 🆕🪫

It is annoying that my MacBook lacks this feature... I didn't realise cheaper iPhones lacked it.

I turned off "system haptic" (not to be confused with keyboard haptic), but I have the feeling it (the system haptic) is still on.

And those were good tips by the way. I absolutely despise such useless design features that have no functionality. It bloats up the OS and makes older iPhones slower with every update, and drains your battery. Perhaps even on purpose. And they can always sell it as if it was a new feature, pff!

It's cool if you enjoy looking at your iPhone and dreaming around, but some people need these devices for work and need functionality and rationalism over lifestyle-showoff-blingbling-entertainment!

Features like these are like soothers for adults, it's ridiculous :p
