I got to setup Bootcamp on my Mac . I will get you the file in just a bit

Following your post i flashed a 8800 GTS with the 8800 GT Mac EPROM. Works fine in Mac oSX but black screen in Windows. If your card works on PC or windows on bootcamp, could you post the EPROM you have used for your GTS?

Thank's

(I assume) the original poster bought the 512-P3-E841-AR from a link he verified earlier. Newegg has the 512-P3-N841-AR. Anyone know what the difference is or where I could look to see the differences?

Or did the original poster buy the 512-P3-N841-AR from newegg? I think the difference might be american vs european.

Hello, could you confirm whether it works or not in bootcamp ? Do you get anything displayed, or just a black screen like uzul ?

Not working in BootCamp I think it has something to do with the timing.. I am working on a solutions,

Sorry to hear that. I take it then that flashing a GTS card is no longer an option?. Please let us know if you fix this issue. As good as the plain GT card is, more options are always welcome.

I am making Progress!

That is a good news ! we have been trying with pipomolo42 to "mix" different PC BIOS with the Mac 8800 GT EPROM and it fails: loop restarting of the Mac with the flashed card. It doesn't seem to be a checksum or "last ROM indicator" problem as pipomolo42 has created a script under python to automatically calculate and update this figures.
Maybe you could tell us on which part you have made progress as it could help other people working on this to "look" in the good place for a clue. Thank's

If you haven't already hit up Tianocore for the EFI dev kit. It's a great source of information and free. As a guess to your current problem check the PCIDS and PCIR offsets, they may require adjustment.

Any luck? I Was gonna jump, but if I couldn't play COD4 I'd be pissed :p

Thanks for putting your hardware on the line buddy, we all appreciate your work

I think I about got it.. 20 flashes later.. I am working on it, my friend is a Hex Edit Guro!

I have just managed to get an eVGA 8800GTS (model number 512-P3-E841-AR) working in Bootcamp with Win XP 32bit on my MacPro1,1. As my Radeon 1900XT is starting to fail I decided to take the risk and hope for nVidia or apple to come out with an efi32 rom for this card at a later time.

Here's what I noticed:
1) you will need to keep your old card (in my case the 1900XT) in one of your pci-e slots and connected to some power source, otherwise your mac wont boot at all. As I didn't have enough power cable at home, this cost me my DVD drive, as I had to pull the power cord that goes to the optical drive cage down to the pci slot area where I used a 4-pin to 6-pin molex connector to power the second card. As I bought the retail version this cable was in the box, YMMV.
2) at first Windows didn't want to use the card at all, even though I had the newest forceware drivers installed. The GTS would show up in the hardware list, but XP wouldn't let me select a resolution and would say that the drivers were for a different version of windows.
3) Windows started to recognize the card first when I put it in Slot 1 and the ati card in slot 2. Now XP still says that when I open the control panel, but I can select the correct resolution now so I guess i'll have to live with that. This is with the newest (beta) forceware drivers and with the 8.4 catalyst drivers installed.

I haven't tried rebooting into OS X yet, so I can't say if the fan will go at max speed then.

Is this a reflashed gts to work in osx?

Any graphic card in the world will work with a Mac Pro if you are booting Windows. It's just a normal PC then. And nobody will ever release a different Rom for getting 8800 cards to work in OSX on older Pro's. The cards chip is too small, so we need a totally new card to get both OSX and XP compability.

Well, even though it behaves like a PC the EFI still needs find a compatible card during boot, just switching the card isn't enough as I wrote. And even though I didn't check yet, chances are high that this card has a 128k rom chip which is large enough to hold a firmware which works for both platforms. Info on that is available in this very thread, in the EFI64 thread, on themacelite.com and on nvinject.free.fr.

Is there any PC card that wont conflict between any of the OS X compatible cards from apple? This wouldnt be as big of a deal if i just had to switch video cards with the VGA or DVI cables rather than pulling out the entire card.

It is not a big deal if you want to take the risk to plugg/unplugg video cards while power supply is on :D I wouldn't.

Success With PX8800GTS 512mb

Hi All,

I'd like to report success in the current 2008 mac pro with a Leadtek PX8800GTS 512mb. here is a link to this exact card:

CLICKY

I received this card for free from a friend who bought it in hong kong :) (I'm Lucky) I'm not sure wether I should keep it or swap it because It only works in OS X and not both OS X and bootcamp. The steps I followed to flash the card were:

1. Use old PC and USB thumb drive with nvflash and mp8800gt.rom
2. Backup original ROM file from the 8800GTS 512mb to thumb drive
3. Flash 8800GTS 512mb with "mp8800GT.ROM" file using the command:
"nvflash -4 -5 -6 mp8800gt.ROM"
4. Hit yes on all prompts that nvflash gave me.
5.After a few bleeps from the card it reported that it had successfully flashed itself :p.

No problems what so ever in OS X after installing it into my mac pro but I have the same problems that uzul has reported. When I installed the card I removed the stock 8800GT and used the same power cable to power the 8800GTS 512mb. If anybody has had any success getting this to work in bootcamp please point me in the right direction or resource.

TIA.

Thank you for sharing this! I´ll really gonna try this then I get my mac pro;)

But one question:
Do you know how to change the clockspeed of the card?
For example sett 740/2000 as standard.

To change the clock speed under OS X you have to modify the mp8800GT.ROM file and "hard code" those settings into it, then you must flash the card with that ROM file for those speeds to stick under OS X. If you do a search on the forum you will find a post saying something about a program called NiBiTor which will allow you to modify those settings. Currently I just run the card at the stock 8800GT speeds, I have no real purpose for OC'ing until I really need it.

Wonderful:) thanks!
I don´t know if i gonna try this...Sounds a little risky. Anyway, I can still OC the card with rivatuner through bootcamp, right?

got it - did it - luv it ! :)

XP saw the card before I flashed, no I have a black screen as well ...

This is too awsome ! Thanks folks!
