Just go the 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4G Controller and was surprised that it don't seem to work properly in Sequoia 15.1. Not recognized at al in some games and in some games only some buttons work. Seems fine on Apple TV and in iOS though, but there were some strange mappings in the game Dead Cells+ (Apple Arcade) when I tried that. A bit strange to see these problems if there's supposed to be "official" support from Apple on these controllers. Hmm....

In contact with 8bitdo support about it now.

I have issues with 8-BitDo. They worked fine in the past (my old one works great and that was before official support) but my new one is awful. The button mappings are wrong and face buttons appear as trigger buttons even when synching it using the macOS setting. This wasn't just in one area either even using Unity I was unable to correctly map the buttons on the controller.

I had better luck mapping it as a Nintendo Switch controller but still it's super irritating.

The only controller that seems to work regardless of the macOS version is the playstation controller. I say that as having the 8bitdo Ultimate controller and realizing it doesn't work in Grid Legends, but my PS controller worked fine.

I see.
I think this is pretty bad and a bit surprising since it is claimed on the website that the controller is officially supported by Apple: https://www.8bitdo.com/apple/

I got this Ultimate 2.4G controller since it also has a wireless dongle that works as an Xbox controller in Windows beside the Bluetooth support for Apple devices, so thought I'd be getting a controller that works for both. At least that's what the marketing on the 8bitDo website say. False advertising, eh?

It could be that Apple has taken way too long to make a universal controller api so most devs roll their own or use other options that are more limited in what controllers it supports.

I think you're on to something here, because after testing the controller with some more games it actually does work as expected in several of the ones I tried, but also several where it's not recognized at all.

A bit interesting to find that when using the controller on iOS the Apple Arcade game Crossy Road Castle worked fine to play with the controller there, but the same game using the controller on macOS is a no go – no buttons or anything recognized.

The game Dead Cells+ on iOS first seemed fine with the controller, but I soon noticed some buttons were mapped incorrectly.

A bit messy all, but at least it can work fine when the game supports it.
Now, I do wonder if I would see the same behavior if connecting a ”genuine” Xbox controller, or is this something that's has to do with way 8bitDo has designed their controller?
