The current rumor is that 8K recording is coming to the 14 series allowing 30fps and 60fps

How to do you guys think Apple will handle 8K recording on the 14 Pro/Pro Max?

for reference, current Android phones can max out 8K at 24fps for only 10 minutes

I think Apple will do it because Samsung has and Apple can potentially sell way more overpriced storage space on devices. 8K uses a lot of space very quickly. It’s 4x 4K and 4K is basically not really needed. I have seen upscaled 1080P and 4K next to each other and nobody could tell the difference.

Here is a better question, why would you need 8K video? Consumer grade monitors are at 4K or 5K tops (with 8K being extremely niche).

I fail to see the benefit right now for average people and even Pro-sumers.
I'm not sure I'll ever experience 8K with screens recommended to be from 65" and above.
Though I see 55" is since available, not convinced I'd benefit from8K in small flat.

8K recording has no benefit other than content creators comparing it to DSLR cameras that cost 5x the price.

Record for my kids to see in 18 years or for me to see it in the next 40-50 years.

Lol then why'd you make this post? Sounds like you don't care how Apple handles it.
The purpose of the post was to discus how Apple would implement 8K vs 8K on Android.

The rumors are pointing to 30 and 60fps recording however Android phones can‘t handle more then 10 mins at 24fps and being extremely hot with upwards of 30%+ battery drain

Essentially, this post is to put the question of ”How will Apple achieve something that NONE of the other companies can?

or is the rumor wrong

I think that Apple is likely to implement 8K video recording, but I haven't seen any reliable information on how. I also don't think that Apple will go into a lot of detail at the launch event, simply for reasons of time. Those of us who are interested will be reading specification notes after the launch to figure out implementation.

If 24fps is available for 4K but not 8K, I think that there'll be a fair amount of post-event discussion about the reason and what it may mean for frame rates in the future. My impression is that most people shooting video with a phone are using 30 and 60fps.

I'm all for them implementing 8K video recording, simply because with that much processing power overhead the phone will be that much better and more efficient at 4K recording. I'll likely never use 8K for anything other than fooling around. Half the videos I take are already 1080p30 grabbed by holding the shutter in photo mode because I don't need 2160p60 for stuff like a quickie video of my cat in low light.

4K will still look quite good. We aren't back in the early or mid 2000s when going from 140p to 280p to 360p to 480p and finally 720p actually made a difference.

Now going from 4K to 8K will make a rather small difference as we are approaching limits on what the human eye can distinguish.

8K is absolutely pointless. It's obviously just a marketing gimmick like megapixels (isn't there a 200MP smartphone sensor coming out soon 😂)

With these small sensors, low bitrates, codec compression, and not necessarily the best optics, smartphones are basically unable to resolve to 4k anyway. 1080p from a 'real' camera always looks better than 4K from any smartphone. Why the f**k would anyone want 8K in a phone?
