I have a pair of iPhone 6 phones that are configured almost identically. One is still running 8.4.1. The other is running 9.3 since yesterday afternoon. Battery life doesn't seem to be affected.

Couldn't tell you. Usage number goes up almost parallel with stand by. I'm trying to figure it out. Background refresh off, all apps closed and hard reset the device. Yet usage goes up.
Sounds like email acct or app hung up. I would try the reset all settings. That typically will solve the "same stdby as usage" syndrome. Something definitely causing that usage, not iOS.

iPhone 6S. Used the phone entirely either on 4g or 3G during travelling for 6 hours with patchy signal.

Think a carrier update is needed or a couple of apps out there that aren't playing nice. Could try disabling background app refresh and slowly re-enable them.

yeah my battery is wonky. I've got huge drain on my devices, when they get wicked low and I plug them in my percentage jumps a little bit.

A few times now my iPhone 6S has shut down completely when at 20%. I may have to take it back if this continues.

My iPad Air was great on 9.2.1 -- better than my unofficial benchmark of 10%/hr in normal usage (mostly browsing and email). The first charge on 9.3 has fallen short of that.

Haven't noticed a difference with my iPhone 6+ yet, mostly because I haven't used it much. But at least it doesn't show any abnormal drain while on standby, like I've had with "bad" updates on my old 5.
