14PM: Used my phone very heavily with browsing, what’s app, emails, and baby monitor on for large parts of the day. Went from 100% at 6am to 39% at 10pm.

Today will very likely use it to watch the football so can let you know what % I finish the day on.

If tests are coming out at 9 hours and Apple are claiming 27 surely that’s a major case of false advertising? Or am I missing something?
29 hours offline video playback.

Going to test the battery today. Took the 14 PM off the charger with 100 percent battery at 7:32 am. Today is going to be one of my typical days, and I easily got home with between 40/50 and 60 percent battery on my 13 Pro Max, so we’ll see how the 14 PM does.

Edit: Leaving AOD on.

It’s my first time using an iPhone Pro Max. Is this considered good for my battery life?

Few thoughts —

-Turn off Bluetooth if not using.

This myth just won’t die won’t it 😂
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth have a negligible impact on battery life, especially when not connected to anything.
The radio scans consume next to nothing.

And leaving them on actually helps battery life because if an app uses location services, it can use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth geolocation instead of the GPS.

What setting did this guy have for the 9 hours and 31 minute amazing battery life when constantly using the phone?

I know Toms Hardware did a battery test too on the iPhone 14 Pro Max and got 14 hours something minutes. Does anyone know what setting he used as well? Doubt he constantly used it but I could be wrong.
I guess it’s all down to the apps/games they use in each test, they got over 10 hours on this on 14 Pro Max

Can guarantee the battery will improve with iOS 16.1. I noticed a dip in battery on my 13 Pro on the 16.0 final build.

That’s an interesting video. I was super, super disappointed to hear him say that Apple has restricted the 1Hz screen refresh to only be for the AOD though. I spend an hour or two each day reading ebooks in Kindle where, apart from a single page turn about every 45 seconds (I timed myself), the screen content is totally static. If only Apple would let Kindle (and other apps as appropriate) drop the refresh rate down to 1Hz then, together with the fact that I use a dark theme so only the OLED pixels for the text itself are on, it would use very little power when reading ebooks.

I feel like battery life isn’t as good as on my 13 pro max
I always check battery life during the first few days when I get a new phone, and I most definitely know that my 13 Pro Max smoked my 14 Pro Max during the first 48h last year. The 13PM was an insane beast that still had 100% after several hours of standby / display off time. I vividly remember talking to my friend about it during dinner night that "I'm still at 97% after 12h of plugged out time".

Meanwhile my 14PM has already hit 87% with 7h plugged out time (literally no real usage other than 1-2 texts sent every hour) and always on turned off (turned it off yesterday because I thought it's responsible for the dreadful idle battery consumption + was pretty distracting during movie night).

Attached my screen time and battery chart.

//EDIT: Literally dropped a percentage taking these 2 screenshots.

Mid day update: massive improvement in battery life. As good as, if not better than my 13 PM i’d say. Currently 1:23 Pm, at 78% with AOD on. Will update again later on!

Do developers have access to the new Display engine found in the 14 range? I think if they get access to it they can then begin tailoring apps like Kindle to run at 1Hz, I would watch this space as the updates roll in, things may improve drastically if they are allowed to code for the DE.

There could be a difference in how iOS 16 calculates battery life to, with my older 11 Pro Max I had noticed that it was no longer staying at 100% long but rather having a more linear downward trend instead of bigger drops.
So the phone may not stay at 100% long but is still getting good battery life, just giving you a more “realistic” view of what’s happening.

I had 7h SOT today with 32% left. 14 Pro.
I feel like its better than my 13 Pro.

I feel like I got better battery out of my 13…though I thought my new phone might need a few charge and cycles to sort itself out?

That seems to be the fix… haven’t seen a software update yet on my 14 PM but after a few charge cycles, this is easily the best it’s ever been.

Alright, days almost over, battery is definitely much better today, but still shy of what the 13 PM would be at around now. However, I will say I was using it a lot more than usual today. Currently 7:00 PM, at 43% currently, and I’m so far satisfied with where the battery is at. Hopefully it improves or stays this way over the next couple of days!
