A bit taken aback by the price, but I've preordered one anyway :) cheaper than buying a new Mini to replace the one I gave to M&D!

US prices don't include sales tax, which depending on the state can be upto 15%. So we aren't getting such a bad deal. It's still cheap.

Dont waste your time they dont get it

Some of us get it, it's just a bit of a shock to see $99=£99 when you're used to $99=£59 (such as MobileMe). The new AppleTV is still a bargain, just not the impossible bargain we all expected! :)

Would a US apple TV work here in the UK? And I don't see any mention of TV shows on the UK model, just movies and the usual YouTube etc.

I didn't think the price was too bad, was expecting £149.

Even with the rumoured $99? :p

I'm still happy with the price.. Especially as I got it for £74 with my coupon :D

$99 is about £64 at today's exchange rate. Add on 17.5% VAT and you get a price just over £75. So even allowing for tax, it's more than 30% more expensive here. I would be the first to accept that goods are sometimes more expensive here, but an additional 30% margin is a bit extreme.

Welcome to Apple UK

I've owned the original 160GB Apple TV since the day the larger one was announced. I would have bought possibly two more if they had been £79.

A bit disappointed with the lack of new features, it's basically the same product it's always been but the price has held a lot of casual people back.

I'm confused what can apple tv actually do apart from stream rented movies which costs aswell?

£79? The new ones are £99.

Just done the same thing.. saw $99 and was like.. wow thats a bargain..then switch to uk and £99 .. just outrage.. and no longer a bargain however still affordable.

Why does Apple TV always translate to charging us in the UK a lot more then USA , everything else they do ok with, we always end up paying more but no where near £ for $ , infuriating..

And whats more the USA get MORE on their apple tv then we do, with net flix and the tv show rentals.

It is quite common to see anything priced in dollars in the US, use the same numerals in pounds in the UK. I know a lot of it has to with shipping and taxes, and other are just the cost of living in the UK.

TEG

I dont no why we pay more but the even simpler answer is if you want it get it if you dont then dont! No one is making you spend your money on the thing!

I was merely justifying why people are angry at this, not complaining myself...

I am currently borrowing my parents appletv... and have loved having it! But the day will come when they want it back, they are currently moving home.

I am happy that the price of the new one is less than the older one but i still think apple's pricing of the new apple tv is shocking.

It has slowly been going this way for the past couple of years, but the exact same price as across the pond is beyond a joke.

Like i said in a previous post, i will gladly accept this as a present but i don't think its worth £99

Im certain £99 is the correct price. I won't be buying thats for sure. If you assume average sales tax in the US of 6.5% and exchange rate of $1.48/£1 ... it should be £71 plus the "extra" UK costs SJ likes to talk about... whatever those are....

I'm surprised the price difference has invoked such anger, I don't like it either but I would have thought we would all be used to it by now. Apple are also covering themselves for the increase in VAT in January as well as including the ridiculous EU import duties and VAT rate (which here in the EU must be at a minimum of 15%). These laws and other business tax laws are the reasons for the high prices we get charged for on this continent.

On a different note I'm sure in the UK we will get some local content (not nothing), it was stated within the keynote. I'm guessing at least the BBC iPlayer, with hopefully 4OD. I personally will wait and see for a few weeks on this one.

Apple really need to make this a LOVEFiLM compatible device, so us UK users are at least offered something close to NetFlix.

Considering the relatively small choice of devices that can actually stream LF, it seems to me that Apple would be on to a winner with a 99 quid box. Add in iPlayer, itv player, and 4onDemand and the :apple:tv might start seeming a bit better value for money.

Stream content from you iTunes library, Netflix, and YouTube.

Yup. Need a Mac Mini if you want storage. Sort of erm, defeats the purpose of the device if you only have one Apple TV. If you have multiple Apple TV's and one Mac as a server, seems a good solution.

I've ripped all my DVD's (about 100 of them) and put them on a drive.

Only problem, what happens if someone wants to see my photos, but my MacBook Pro is not at home.
