That's pretty much how I feel about it.

My issue is that the Nexus 4 has poor build quality and the camera isn't very good.

I also loathe the way Google were harvesting my personal habits and data for gawd knows what reason. I found clear evidence of this and it's a bit below the belt.

I enjoyed the S3 but the experience doesn't match the fun I have had with the iPhone 5.

I'm a big fan of Android but they need to lock down a lot of the "openess" in the sense of getting a bit more strict on apps that are submitted to Google Play. The battery life is also another cause for concern.

Everything in my house evolves around Apple: ATV, Airs, iMacs, MacPros, iPhones, iPads etc etc, However, like many I am becoming disheartened with iOS and have started to look the other way...

My question to those who were in my situation but have jumped ship is how well does the Nexus play with the rest of the Apple kit in my house?

IE:

1) Currently if I add to my Calendar or contacts, all of my iOS and computer devices update. How would this integrate?

2) AirPlay: Is there a workaround for that?

3) FindmyiPhone App: Is there an equivalent?

Can you expand on this? Google are usually very transparant with their data collection these days. If you're referring to Google Now, they do tell you they collect data before you turn it on.

My only problem with the Nexus 4 is the lack of storage. I have 30 gigs of music, and having a 64gb iPhone is very useful. I don't buy into the whole "use the cloud" for music because I want music instantly and wherever I am.

I, too, would like some clarification and explanation of this. Truly. Everything I've read about Google collecting data sounds un-harmful, but I'd like to know if I'm being misinformed.

Yeah, I also agree that Android's radical openness hurts the user experience. There should be some middle ground between iOS and Android when it comes to openness and control over apps.

I don't think they need to lock it down at all. People just need to stop and think. If they don't know what they are doing or why they are doing it then why are they messing around. Just because you can doesn't mean you should

What did you dislike about the Nexus build quality? I thought it was pretty loud to be honest.

3) FindmyiPhone App: Is there an equivalent?

1) You can get two apps to sync your contacts to the level you want

2) Here's several, with a little break done of each

3) There are several such as Cerberus that actually work better than Fnd My iPhone. A lot better

And I am like you. I sold my iPhone 5 and got a Nexus 4, but still have an Apple TV, MBP, 2 iPads and the wife has an iPhone 4S and I have got no issues.

Sorry, had to stop reading this article when the guy claimed to be a power user, while also an Android noob, then declares it was the Nexus 4 on Jelly Bean 4.2 that finally made him stick with Android after trying the S2 and the S3 (both of which he only used for a day).

The first issue is 4.2 on any platform, including the Nexus 4, has been a bug filled mess. To exclaim the smoothness and abilities of the Nexus 4 compared to the S3 (which was probably running 4.1.x when he supposedly tried it, but he never said) is a bit far reaching for me to take this seriously.

I just can't see this as a believable op ed piece. Especially since it was written by Gizmodo. Their grudge against Apple is well known.

Yea all that I've seen it apparently amount to is that I'll receive ads about things I'd actually want to buy, not random rubbish. But I have adblock installed on my PC and on my Phone so I don't see a single Ad.

Why why why do people keep saying this?

You already have locked down and under control in iOS. Why do we need a third platform under the lock and key by the creators (the second being Windows Phone).

I'd drop the platform like a stone if it ended up emulating what Apple have on offer. Leave it be, you have your closed, controlled, perfected platform, we have ours (including the source code). :D:p;)

Because its the cause of crappy, battery sucking apps and widgets. If Google had a little more say over what got into the Play Store, it'd benefit everyone.

I consider myself a power user and I'd choose a Nexus 4 over anything from Samsung in a heartbeat.

Okay.. This may be hard for some to figure out but.....

Don't downland any of "the crappy, battery sucking apps and widgets" and if one of them does manage to slip through your net, you have the capacity it uninstall it don't you?

I've gone decades without anyone babying me when it comes to computing and I don't need Google to start babying me now. YMMV of course (alongside others) and as I said above there is always iOS or Windows phone for the more simple amongst us. ;)

Enjoy your iPhone.

You would have to move your contacts and calendar over to Gmail

2) AirPlay: Is there a workaround for that?
Not with aTV

3) FindmyiPhone App: Is there an equivalent?
A lot of better alternatives with more options, like remote SMS control

You don't have to download those apps. There are some really terrible poorly coded constantly crashing apps in apples app store, you don't download those do you?

So was mine. Vanilla Android is superior to Android with Samsung's crap thrown on top of it.

The UI is superior, but Touchwiz has additional functionality on top of stock Android, especially for the Galaxy Note line.

While I fully understand how popular and fashionable it is to bash Google, if you mean what you say it's time to get off the internet, sell your stuff and use a pen and spiral binder.

Or...

You could choose to do some research and you'd find that big data and personal information is being collected about you by far more nefarious companies than anyone in the tech sector.

There's a handful of big data companies that know far more about you than Google.

Beat me to it 3bs. :p

I use them with my Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 and so far they've worked seamlessly.

What did you dislike about the Nexus build quality? I thought it was pretty loud to be honest.

I sadly have to agrees about the build quality. Build materials are great--beautifully designed, my favorite non-Apple design to date, love how the screen rounds off at the edges and when the screen is off, it's just a black slab. That being said I've seen a lot of comments online about problems with the device--LCD losing partial or complete touch sensitivity, the rear glass panel scratching or shattering very easily, or as in my case, distinct yellow spots appearing on the screen after minimal to moderate use. Considering how few devices appear to have been sold, seems like a significant problem.
