That's almost correct.

In this case, it's not the app specifying a maximum version (I don't believe it can; though it specifies a minimum version of 10.9). Instead, it's the Finder or some other OS component that matches the bundle identifier ("com.apple.FinalCut") and version to a blacklist.

If you launch the executable directly, you circumvent that because indeed, the info.plist file isn't loaded.

You can also change the plist file that controls this by editing /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/Exceptions.plist, looking up com.apple.FinalCut and setting HardDisabled to 'NO'.

I cant even see the exceptions file

Editing the .plist produces a "Not compatible with this type of Mac" error, despite the fact it works fine in Mavericks.

Running the executable from Package contents opens the app, but no titles, generators, themes, or video effects load. I don't have any 3rd party plug-ins.

Might have to downgrade to Mavericks now, since I need them for a project, unless I can it functioning in iMovie.

Works for me but the title templates and some other stuff is missing. Any ideas?

Same here. Motion handles effects, etc and since Motion 5.1 will not launch nothing is loading aside from two video effects, audio effects all load.

Unless this changes in DP3 (doubtful), I'm planning on fresh installing everything to 10.9.3 and installing DP2 on another drive for development. Thankfully I'm in no need of my system for work at the moment, but I'm going to be, was a bad decision in assuming 10.10 beta's would run similarly to previous OS X development.

I'm getting that same error for Motion 5.1, but not for FCPX 10.1.1 or Compressor.

If you're getting that error for FCPX as well as Motion, that means there's gotta be something in the plist's that differs and could possibly be used to "tweak" Motion to work. Do you know much about how OS X app's run and preferences, etc? If so, find your Final Cut Pro X's .plist file, it's located in your home folders /Library/Preferences folder, should be "com.apple.FinalCut.plist". I'd like to compare mine with yours and see if there's a difference. Also, are you running the current ver. 10.1.1?

FCP7 Works In Yosemite

Sorry for slightly off-topic. I am considering upgrading to FCP X from version 7.
Like a DUMMY, I upgraded to Yosemete w/o realizing it was a beta, and probably full of problems.
Lucky for me, FCP7 works okay in Yosemite, even Compressor. Motion has gone away entirely.

So I guess I should wait to see if/when Yosemite starts to work with FCP X before diving in. Not sure if Media Composer is a viable option either.

Thanks for all the great input in this thread!

As some know, beta 1 of "Yosemite" does not work with many app's, one of which are the Final Cut Pro X app's. Here's a simple fix that got them all running:

- Open Applications folder
- Right click on "Show Package Contents"
- Open "Contents" then the "MacOS" folder
- Double click on "Final Cut Pro"

The terminal window will appear, let it run, and it should be working without any troubles.

Should also work for Compressor, Motion, and iMovie.
Other app's I cannot launch are EyeTV, BetterTouchTool (although the developer knows the issue and has a fix in the works for today), TotalSpaces2, and a few others.

Hope this helps!

Did not work. Got this report back:
