I know everybody's excited about the iPad and all, but are you really that desperate that you ABSOLUTELY MUST have it a day early? My guess is you're going to end up having to wait just like everybody else...

It's all about the money. Instead of waiting around the house for the iPad on Saturday, I can get it early, and run some side jobs on Saturday. Figure 4-5 hours of work on Saturday at $150 an hour - $50 (Finder's fee for the UPS guy) and I'm up by $500 - $550.
What kind of side job pays $150/hr Id like to know ;)

Nobody has mentioned that you might not even be able to activate the iPad with iTunes and thus not even use it before Saturday.
So if someone managed to pay some UPS guy $50 and got it, then what? Sit there looking at it and waiting for Saturday to come round.

I find it pathetic that people will go to such lengths to get something like this.
Someone in another thread said the most perfect line about all you Americans are testing it for the UK release. Thats pure win right there. Good luck with your buggy iPads :D

Will someone actually risk his job for $50? I think not.

Yeah, I was laughing about that. Here at the plant we have two UPS runs and two Fed-Ex runs per day (and 2-5 trucking company runs). Everyone bitches about UPS but we have more problems with Fed-Ex (remember, this is a business LTL route not home/residential service).

Our UPS guys LOVE their job...they are paid well and have very good benefits. They have gone out of their way to make late pickups for parts needing to hit an airplane...they've sat in our lot while we have trimmed and packed parts. They have called dispatch and had them send a 3rd run or had another driver finish a route to do this. We have never had that level of service from Fed-Ex. Well, Fed-Ex freight did manage to 'attempt' to pick up a 1000 gallon custom tank...by sticking their forklift thru the sidewall.

I don't know about your local drivers but the ones we deal with would either laugh at your $50 or tell you 'nicely' to stick it...

That's a big difference as well. All but a handful of the UPS guys here are part time. Sort of an at will, floater situation.

Much easier to grease the skids.

Maybe, if the package was actually going to be at your local UPS warehouse Thursday or Friday. But it won't be. The hold will occur at the hub.

Not to brag...but I quoted a crazy rush 'got to have the parts by morning' fabrication job. I went high because I knew I would be the one staying all night to program and run the job. Got the job, ran it, and the next morning waved as it left on a delivery truck.:p

When I sat down to do a cost analysis I found I was making $600 an hour in labor (had this been a regular production job). Since I am not only salary but one of the owners...I didn't get to pocket the rate or the overtime

Also, My ex-wife is a Speech Pathologist for Healthcare United. She bills from $75 - $150 an hour. She's not paid that...but that's the billing rate to insurance or medicare.;)

That makes no sense.

Ok..let me try to explain it.

1. Call local plumber for clogged lines. I did try clearing them but my 20 foot snake wasn't long enough (I know..I know..'thats what she said') :p
2. They show up and spend 30 minutes using a 'drain clearing deivce (ala roto-rooter)
3. They get the blockage cleared and repack their equipment. Do a walk thru and verify.
4. 45 minutes total...they hand you the bill for $180 (or he says with a smile...I will take $100 in cash and I was never here)

And if you do use "Roto-Rooter" stand by...my neighbor did and they were $225 for the same thing. We live in a 10-13 year old subdivision...so the tree's are just now getting big enough to cause random problems.

I thought about having it held for me to pick up Saturday, but according to the UPS site my local station isn't open Saturdays.

If yours is open Saturday, I don't see the harm is trying to have it held and pick it up when they open. Worst they can say is no.

Obviously you're not going to get it on Friday.

He can try. Last year when people were trying this for the 3GS delivery, UPS said Apple would need to authorize the pick up. They wouldn't do it.

Saturday is a great in store relase date, but crappy for shipments to home. The funny thing is all other orders I have placed with Apple have been shipped to me via FedEx, which does deliver on Saturdays. UPS, where I live, won't deliver until Monday. The UPS customer center 40 miles away is closed on Saturdays as well. Guess they really wanted people to line up at Apple Stores so it looked like better hype for the media. Hey, maybe I can get the local news to come film me camped out on my front porch waiting for my iPad :D

If you really want your iPad super quick you could always try and get a job with UPS before Friday, then take your iPad home early with you.
