So drop the price on batteries as a means to head off the coming storm of lawsuits and everybody eats it up. Free candy for everybody!!!! Great job Apple! /s
Problem fixed, lawsuits go away until the next time Apple gets caught. Lesson learned by Apple, don't be so obvious next time (and there will be a next time).
Sounds about right.
"It should go without saying that we think sudden, unexpected shutdowns are unacceptable. We don’t want any of our users to lose a call, miss taking a picture or have any other part of their iPhone experience interrupted if we can avoid it."
"We now believe that another contributor to these user experiences is the continued chemical aging of the batteries in older iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s devices, many of which are still running on their original batteries."
Translated: We skimped on the battery quality and it ****ed us over, we tried to cover it up, but unluckily you noticed. Have some free bumper cases.
Apple: "we're sorry we got caught"
Well, not from me. But several have been filed already.Lawsuits. LOL.

This is one of those cases where the negative publicity is enough to drive Apple to act. One of those rare times where giving the customer two middle fingers won't work for them like it normally does.
I don't agree that they did the right thing. Ask those who bought a new phone instead of a new battery and see if they agree.Apple did the right thing by implementing the battery optimizing protocol in iOS and again is doing the right thing with this discount on replacement batteries. Between my wife and kids we have 5 iPhone 6's some of which appear sluggish so we'll get them checked out. Another 3 years of life for $29, I'm satisfied.
We know that will never be the case with the devolving masses of self entitled brats.A great response from Apple. Hopefully, everyone can move past this now.
Hmmm…don't think I'm being self-entitled when Apple doesn't inform me that their solution is to throttle my CPU rather than actually fix the problematic battery. We know that will never be the case with the devolving masses of self entitled brats.
I agree it probably would have been better to at least be upfront about doing it from the offset, but I think it was a bit of a no win situation for Apple. They gambled that if (when) it was found out people wouldn’t end up caring or it would have been in force long enough they could have just said ‘we’ve been doing it up to now with no problems’...Hmmm…don't think I'm being self-entitled when Apple doesn't inform me that their solution is to throttle my CPU rather than actually fix the problematic battery.
If that was to be their solution, then being upfront about it and allowing the customer to decide what they wished to do would have been the proper way to go about it.
No one thinks that their phone is being slowed down because the battery is failing. I doubt very much that the people who actually replaced their phone instead of their battery feel they are being entitled.
Much in the same way they gambled that no one would sue them over iOS 6 and the Facetime certificate issue. But they got sued anyway. Don't recall how that resolved, but their answer at that time was "upgrade".I agree it probably would have been better to at least be upfront about doing it from the offset, but I think it was a bit of a no win situation for Apple. Why? They absolutely would not have lifted a finger over this if their methods weren’t exposed. What a stupid comment
that is anther thing that could blow up in there face like vw its clear the tests are faked to say your battery is fine no you dont need a new battery but you can buy a new phone now if you want"But first I need to run a diagnostic test on it" - Genius Bar "Battery" Specialist 2018

Also I see there is many threads popping up about this and like the signal gate if you take the cheap new battery you can bet your bottom £$$ you just signed a no come back clause and apple walk away smelling like a red rose
Exactly, I wouldn't be surprised if they were "refurbished" batteries.
Uh... is this a joke / sarcasm? I won’t go into a chemistry lesson unless you are being serious.
Limited time only (ends in 2018) and your battery must be below "80% health" according to Apple's test.
I didn't see that in the announcement. Did I miss that, or are you assuming they use the current standard? Informational question, not picking a fight.
