I don’t think the iPhone X is anywhere near being the worst iPhone ever in all honesty. That’s complete tripe. It hasn’t been the most sort after though but that’s a mix of features not appealing to everybody and of course it’s awfully high retail price.

Times have changed though and the smartphone market is so mature in 2018 that all manufacturers are noticing a decline in frequent upgrades. You don’t have to pay big bucks for a top of the line smartphone these days and this is most definitely a factor that has changed the lust for latest releases.

Forbes also published many negative articles about the Apple Watch and predicted that it would be such a failure that we would never see a second model.

Forbes = clickbait articles that tend to be negatively biased towards Apple.

Forbes is terrible... When I am doing research on something and I see a Forbes article I move along to the next without ever clicking their link..

I never clink their link since I use an adblocker. I just don’t read their content and I could care less.

The Problem with Forbes and other Clickbait sites, it’s that they can say whatever they want without validation. They basically regurgitate the same article that was likely published from someone else and they just put it in their own wording.

Also, the other reason I don’t like to click on any third-party sites like Forbes, is it’s loaded with spam advertisements and that’s the last thing that I want on my iOS device or laptop.

While I do agree that the X is a nothing more than a gimmick, I didn't need forbes to to tell me that. For every iOS update (even the minor ones) they always write a story with the headline "iOS (...) is here and it has a nasty surprise". What kind of reporting is that? And the pretentious quotes when you first open the site? No...

What really matters is what YOU think of the phone! Not some stupid article. I’ve made the jump from a Note 8 to the iPhone X and there are compromises for both devices. Overall I’m very happy with the X after being out of the Apple ecosystem for 4 years or so, to me that’s what matters!

Actually that’s consumer law NOT Apple allowing that, and in the U.K. we get 28 days to try it out :)

I’ve never used a phone and returned it but some retailers expect tags and packaging to be returned in its original condition under the return policy. Could you actually use an iPhone daily for 28 days and return it with signs of daily wear and tear I wonder?

It’s good we get a statutory 28 days on purchases though as a lot of countries don’t have that long or even any period at all. In Dubai I think the only excuse for returning anything purchased is due to a fault. We do get 24 months to return faulty electricals too with good reason even though manufacturers state 12 months.

Using John Lewis as an example, they say you can use the phone like you would in a store. So as long as your careful with it you can use it, I did that with the iPhone 8 I bought and returned to them.
I will be doing the same if I get an X and don’t like it. Using it in the store it is swings and roundabouts as I use my phones one handed a fair bit but that’s a stretch with the X, but then you get that bigger screen that’s easier to read..
So for me it’s useful that I can try a device and return it if necessary.

On a side note having tried one, when the new iPhones are launched later, and it drops in price the iPhone 8 will be one mad utter bargain of a phone AND cheaper then all other flagships.
So it will be interesting to see what the new SE is like?

As for this threads article, everyone is entitled to their opinions, it is a valid one to reporter and I do agree in part with the inconsistency, the swipe bar is confusing at first for an Apple device for instance.

I don't know if it's the worst iPhone ever but I do know it's the only one I've had no interest at all in buying.

I'm sure it's going to lead to better phones in the future but for me personally it feels more like a way for Apple to bridge the old and new worlds than a true leap forwards and I'm happy to wait until all the compromises have been removed
My thoughts exactly.

I did wonder if once the X became a bit more mainstream I’d start to get the itch. So far, I haven’t. Nor do I yet know anybody who owns one. (I’m in the UK - reading other threads, people in the US often dispute that uptake is slow but it most definitely is here).

The iPhone X, right from the keynote, has struck me as an awkward compromise that was necessary to keep up with the market in terms of design and ditch the bezels. The fact that yet another unnecessary iPhone 6 refresh launched almost alongside just highlights that even more. There was just none of the trademark Apple boldness about the launch.

UK pricing crossed a line. Not saying nobody can afford it, but growing numbers of people - in the current financial climate - are deciding the cheaper alternatives are a palatable compromise. Ironically these are the people who may well go on to make the X the best-selling iPhone model of all. When they buy it in droves in another 18 months time.

I'm guessing at one point the author was denied a seat at a keynote, or denied an early review device.

Sorry - can't read the Forbes article - I use an ad blocker and unless I disable it, the site won't let me in. I ad block due to the extremely poor ad placement web sites have instituted for some reason.

There has never been a new iPhone in the history of iPhones that has received as much hate as the X. This isn't a coincidence. Some people truly despise it. Some love it. There was plenty of grumbling when the headphone jack got removed on the 7, but it was nothing as deep as this.

I don't like the X, but I dislike Forbes clickbait trash even more. There was a time when Forbes was a respectable business publication, now it's just trash and it won't be missed when it hits the dustbin of history. It's almost as bad as those crappy sites like BrainJet or Mental Floss.

Good riddance.

Here ist my review: I like my new IPhone X. Have it for a week now and face id is really handy.
The notch doesn't bother me too.

Sorry but being from America it is Apple’s policy along with the 14 days in my country. :)

Except in that window leading up to the US holidays when you can wind up with +/- six weeks to return Apple products.

My brief take on the Fortune opinion piece:

It probably has the worst title ever. However...

If you read the brief two-page opinion piece (it' isn't a "review" in my mind), a lot of his complaints were the same complaints that led me to return my iPhone X. I thought the hardware was brilliant, but I thought that Apple's implementation of iOS 11 on the X was noticeably less user-friendly than on the TouchID phones. For me, the way I use the phone, the UX was simply not as good, not as convenient, as my iPhone 7, which is ultimately what I went back to.

And it's clear that a LOT of people here feel differently. My decision was a personal decision about how I want to work with my own phone, and I still think that the X is a magnificent technological achievement.

So at the end of the day - maybe just this: *shrug*
[doublepost=1521417343][/doublepost]And as an oh-by-the-way comment, the author totally missed this part (publication date was January 2, 2018):

And we predict that for the next version of the iPhone X, expected in just 9 months, Apple will bring back the front Home button and Touch ID, but this time, it will be integrated under the display. A technology that was not ready in time for shipping last year, but will be demonstrated by several vendors, including Qualcomm and Synaptics, next week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

So many of these authors for all these various tech sites will likely never be offered invites to an Apple keynote, there is so much competition with journalism for tech related news in this industry, they will say anything for you to click on the article and read or subscribe. A lot of its Frivolous news that’s been rehashed several times over from other sites reporting the same thing. I find the most reliable is Bloomberg based off my readings.

I just read this "review", more of an opinion piece really, and thought it really doesn't describe accurately the user experience of the iPhone X. Has anyone else seen it?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeanba...hone-x-is-the-worst-iphone-ever/#1af2ede57dde

I've only had mine a few days but I am overall very pleased with how Apple has implemented the gestures. I think Face ID is great and find it magical that it works in complete darkness.

There is, as Jean Babtiste Su notes, an extra step to have to swipe up to come to the home screen but I have a feeling that will be made optional in a later iOS update; some might like that, others might prefer to get to the home screen directly.

However, I certainly don't relate at all to Babtiste Su's view that it takes 2-3 seconds for Face ID to work. On my phone it is as fast as Touch ID, if not actually faster. Touch ID, on the other hand, would repeatedly fail if I my fingers were either too cold, too warm or a bit wet. Face ID has never failed to recognise me.

I also don't understand the problem he has with swiping up; that has never failed on mine but then again I have no notifications on the home screen (which he says causes the delay) because I find them distracting.

There is also a comment in the piece about the tap to wake function which he writes "hopefully" will work. I don't know if he has actually tried it but tap to wake is very effective. And it is not necessary to "fly" one's head over the device; mine unlooks at a distance of about 40cm and a 45 degree angle. That's pretty amazing tech at work, imho, and a very userfriendly implementation of the function.

Babtiste Su has a point about how Control Center is invoked; that is less than ideal on a taller phone. What I do is use the "reachability" function (activated in apps too) and then swipe down at right on the middle of the screen. Works extremely well.

What also works well I find is the swipe up and hold for the app switcher. I was initially quite reluctant to this function but I quickly became used to it. Contrary to what he writes, it has never failed on my phone.

Very true. I own the S8 plus and the iphone x. And the X is just so much better.
[doublepost=1521452652][/doublepost]
Don’t own an X so I can’t comment on everything else but definitely hate how control center is setup on the X.

I plan on getting the plus sized X and it definitely would be annoying having to reach to the top for CC.

U can setup assistive touch and make a shortcut for the control center. Than set the opacity to very low and the button of AT will almost not be visible. (Only on the iphone x u can change the opacity of the assistive touch button)

I bought “the worst iPhone ever”. Yup, I paid $1K for it. It’s the best iPhone I’ve ever owned and I’ve had most of them. It’s worth every penny, TO ME.
