I think I'll die if I ever get mine stolen or just lost

That's why I always keep mine on my side ALL the time, but the only thing you can do right now is go to the at&t store and suspend the Sim card, get a regular phone and try to trace your stolen phone...if you have the resources and time

but I doubt you know all the details on the phone....

Sorry that happened to you, OP. I'm a grown woman and I'd be SEVERELY pissed off if something happened to my iPhone, so it's not just you. Best of luck in recovering or replacing it!

Oh, and the OP's post is one hell of a lot more coherent than many posts I read (or attempt to read) on MR every day.

That sucks.

Financial advice: You're 17 years old and don't need to be blowing huge portions of your income on luxury items. If you're this upset about losing it I'm pretty sure it's a definite sign that you couldn't afford it in the first place.

Save or invest your money while you're young, it pays off a hell of a lot more the sooner you get started...

I make plenty of money and could definitely afford another iPhone... But if this happened to me I'd be freakin' upset. Really upset.

Financial advice: Don't think so lightly of an investment of well over $100 no matter how much money you make.

I don't think the person to whom you replied asked for your opinion and advice on his opinion. Play The Decider Of How Everyone Should Act someplace else.

Yeah, something similar happened to me.

The good news was that when I checked my home insurance policy, it was covered for the loss, so they paid up for me to get a brand new one. It's always worth checking if you or your parents have some insurance that might cover your loss.

Send a message " gps has been activated and police are on the way unless you call 123-123-1234"

I think I may write a screenplay about this story, and send it in to Hollywood. This has Oscar written ALL over it...

Just kidding...that sucks...I knew a guy who dropped his brand new BlackBerry in a Urinal, so don't feel bad.

The prospect of losing my device is exactly why I pay $10 a month for MobileMe. It's not because I particularly care about all of the cloud stuff that Me offers (I mostly use Google products, anyway). The point is that a) I might be able to retrieve my device if lost via Find my iPhone, but really it's because b) I can remote wipe my device - as I have a ton of sensitive work and personal information on it.

To the OP: don't give up hope. My friend (from Saskatchewan) lost his iPhone in LA, and apparently it's being sent back in the mail. It took a few months to get it settled, and he had to involve the police, but it is possible to get your device back. The best piece of advice I can give you is not to be intimidated by a two-bit thief (assuming your phone was maliciously stolen - or that it won't be returned if you try to claim it, which is basically the same thing).

i would take it as losing the phone as an opportunity to go out and buy the 32 gb 3gs iphone. if life give you lemons, go out and make lemonade. Lloyd

The Oldest Trick In The Book

Might just be me but i heard of this trick on another forum with a similar situation and due to the sympathy it generated the OP ended up getting his stolen item donated and it ended up that it was a known scam being run on various forums and the OP was a 37 year old

Well considering he's not asking for money or a new phone from us... I don't think that's what's going on. If he was I'd be a little more concerned ;)

Begging the question why you decided to post here... Hmmm...

Forums are for discussions. Not telling people to stop talking.

I don't care that you don't care or that this even upsets you. My guess is the OP doesn't either. Nobody is making you read it much less making you post.

Most of us here are iPhone fans and DO sympathize with the OP. Read the thread?

It's a good question.

Ouch, I can only imagine how you feel. I'm thirteen and my 3G is simply my most prized possession. It's obvious you put fourth effort into getting that phone, and losing it just makes matters worse.

Good luck, and next time, if you can, get MobileMe for Find my iPhone.

I know. It's called trolls defending trolls.
Of course you'll be able to back up that statement by quoting and demonstrating relevant examples of my being a troll. My guess is that you're sore at being hoist with your own petard and now you're blindly seeking whatever solace you can find.
The first one doesn't even own an iPhone.
How does owning, or not, an item determine the validity of good advice?

Keep grasping at those straws.

Buy MobileMe, use Find My iPhone, track it down, get it back.

Find My iPhone requires that you have a MobileMe account set up on the iPhone and that you have "Allow Find My iPhone" turned on. How exactly is he supposed to set that up on a phone that's no longer in his possession?

Incidentally, it also requires that the iPhone be turned on and have cell service, neither of which seem to be true of his phone...

Just because he has a hard time replacing something doesn't mean he "can't afford it"

if your car got stolen, would you be able to run out and buy a new one right away? If your house burned down, are you moving into a new one the next day? It's not the same amount of money, but the concept is the same.
