Uhm I'm afraid budget is a bit low to get a decent A/V.
Anyway if you can afford a Denon or Onkyo set,you won't regret at all.
After years of experience these trademarks give the best relation about quality and budget
ive owned denon(broke on me) two yamahas, a very high end pioneer elite receiver(1300$) which i still have 5 years later working like a tank.
just recently got a marantz. 1401. guess they dont have it anymore but this is basically the same thing just newer. http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/P...?CatId=AVReceivers&SubCatId=&ProductId=NR1403
i love the sound of it. music and movies are amazing it has a more warm sound i cant explain it really but what yamaha poineer denon do is over inflate how much watts per channel it really has. Marantz does this a little differently and i love it. Also its slimmer then most and easy to use and setup.

if you can find a 1402 still id pick that up in a heart beat. It will beat out any receiver under 400$ imo
