A new leak available here: https://wccftech.com/apple-a12-part-number-cpu-codename/

Update: Ive confirmed with the source that both chips have gone into production which would align with my own theory below. Also I found something out from the WWDC poster. The words and those blocks form an X.

The hacker named “Longhorn” leaked two A12 part numbers, with one purportedly being the A12X. He also noted the code name being “Vortex” for the “big” cores presumably. Bloomberg has already reported the A12 chip has gone into production at TSMC with the new 7nm process. This leak makes me certainly wonder if Apple has also decided to produce a A12X simultaneously to have a bigger wow factor at WWDC and to the general public. That might sound dumb but it would match up to Apple’s marketing strategy of naming the A11 “Bionic” to make a bigger splash in the consumer mindset, if the A12X is ready which it very well could be Apple has no reason to hold it back. It would also make since that the iPad being the workhorse of the iOS devices it should start debuting with flagship silicon. Sadly just as I can see the possibility of it releasing, I can also see it painting the picture of yet another ~1.5 years cycle. Where we simply dont see a A11X iPad and we get the A12X model in Spring of 2019. Not that anyone with the current Pro is really complaining but it would be a bummer for people with older models looking to upgrade. I think Apple knows this though, and they could easily continue the trend of iPad sales growth by doubling down on Pro refreshes yearly with newer silicon, akin to how they’ve done Macs over the past decade.

Kudos to you, selling my old iPad Pro 9.7” finally. For this
7nm A12X is jaw dropping.
Then again I knew something was up when TSMC announced all 10nm production had stopped. A few weeks ago.

The WWDC part and then above and below the larger blocks kinda form a continuous line

This saves me a lot of money I was gonna buy a MacBook Pro 13” that’s on sale at BB now I just have to wait to hear news about the 7nm A12X holy smokes.

I hope A12X has Meltdown and Spectre fixes in hardware.

Back in the 90s they had these 3D hidden picture things where if you squinted really hard and moved your head to an angle you could see a picture within a picture. Yeah, I could never see those either. ‍♂️

Doesn’t matter. Just to clarify. You’re saying that since there is evidence of the A12X there’s a chance of a WWDC IPP announcement right?

Yes

Awesome news I hope you are right!! To wait til Spring 2019 would be nuts Im hoping for two weeks from now :)
Credit card ready. Instant purchase. I work abroad and will be in the states for my summer trip on June 14. Perfect timing.

Don’t actually NEED it till october or movement but If it’s out I have time to play, figure things out and take 3 months to transition from a laptop to iPad only for mobile work.

IPP/256/LTE with a smart(er) keyboard and pencil goes in my shopping cart the second it’s announced. Hoping they ship immediately and not in September. Which works too actually. I’m back early November and can always grab one then. Better accessories will be released as well

Last year on May 29th the patent came out for the iPad Pro 10.5 so if something comes out on that date regarding this new iPad it will be very good news. I had bad luck with the iPad Pro 10.5 wifi, bought one at Target last year, was defective, exchanged it at Target for another one, went bad after a week..so I just said screw it wont be buying anymore iPads from Target, only from either best buy or Apple not worth the hassle I guess that particular Target got a bad batch of iPads

What was the announcement shipping gap last year? Available to buy right after WWDC?

That’s the one thing that would absolutely mess me up ... defective product. I always get Applecare or Applecare + but I’m going to have to google and see if it’s a worldwide warranty. I’m oNLy in the states for 10 days and not sure if that’s enough time to put it through it’s paces. No real choice though

It was like a week

Highly doubt we'll see an A12X come before an A12.. Apple's focus is the iPhone. iPhone gets the goodies first, and then it comes to the iPad.

Why? It’s assumed that an iPad is supposed to be more powerful than an iPhone (12x vs 12). They could optimize one for power and the other for battery.

iMac Pro came out before any meaningful update or redesign of the iMac 5k too

It’s usually like this yes but I could see Apple changing that mentality. The iPhone is always gonna have the latest silicon it’s really irrelevant if it gets it first. The iPad is a platform that devs of advanced apps can show off on and prove what’s capable on iOS and ARM when the perfomance is there. It would make since for Apple to give the latest silicone to the iPad first, as app devs and users are way more likely to use and take advantage of the higher perfomance and apps. Where as on iPhones, it’s there but nobody stops and notices. People send texts, play candy crush, and watch Netflix on iPhones. On iPads people edit video with luma fusion and photos with Affinity Photo. Normal users draw with procreate and take notes with notability. The silicon is a genuine selling point of these iPads. With iphones it still is but I mean it’s not leveraged nearly to the same degree as on these iPads. Summary: You bring advanced silicon to an iPhone and very few people take notice because at the end of the day it’s a phone, your not doing anything remotely intensive/productive anyway. You put advanced silicon into an iPad and people notice because you’ve increased the ability for console quality gaming/creativity with drawing/ professional photo and video work/ or at the very least your increasing the productivity of students and people who are using iPad to make spreadsheets, take notes, do research and everything in between. I mean iPhone sales aren’t increasing(ASP is) yet iPad sales have increased YOY

The interesting thing I read in that article was that performance vs battery is a sliding scale. So you can have a 40% performance upgrade without battery life increase or vice versa.

Apple could customize it right? throw in more performance on the iPad (it's got a big battery anyway) and that's a selling point. Add more battery to the iPhone - it's quite powerful as it is - and that's a HUGE selling point for a phone. I'm with you - or maybe it's just wishful thinking and hope - IPP with the 12x at WWDC and iPhone with the A12 optimized for more battery in September.

You're right, nobody buying an iPhone is really concerned about what chip is in it. Who cares? It's design, battery life, cameras and all the other whiz bang stuff.

Exactly make the iPad Pro the Flagship showcase. Pushing the envelope people will buy the Silicon. Whereas IPhone teenagers and average users don’t even care or know what the CPU is. They just want “an iPhone”
[doublepost=1527331233][/doublepost]
So wait, this means the new iPad Pro will launch earlier than the new iPhones and be more powerful?
Yes it’s time to shake things up.

I think Apple might finally bring the Pro naming to the iPhone with this shift.
IPad Pro A12X CPU Faster More Cores Because the IPad has more battery and bigger space to spread the heat.
IPhone Pro A12 CPU Less Cores And Slower Due go size and heat limitations being phone sizes.
MacMini A12X CPU running MacOS will be the show stopper.
So might a cheap $998 New MacBook running MacOS using the new A12X CPU.

Excellent post. What do you think of the little phone being the iPhone and the new larger one iPhone Pro? Maybe even pencil support, split screen multitasking. One runs the 12, the other 12X.
[doublepost=1527335762][/doublepost]Edited. Forgot about the 6.1 LCD version. That can be the iPhone along with the SE. the X and X+ are the iPhone pro.

The biggest one will be the IPhone Pro. Possibly with 120hz ProMotion Display a mad feature to set itself apart from Samsung. And the A12 CPU.

This year that’s gonna be the show stopper. The conference will start blah blah blah.
Oh look at Out new A12X 7nm IPad Pro WOW ! It’s a Pro Level CPU and faster than some Intel i3 And i5 CPUs.
But Wait There’s One More thing one ☝️
Flash the Price across the screen $899 what could be $899
New MacMini Powered by the A12X and a new MacBook running on the A12X. Boom crowd goes wild Shipping next week.

And I arrive home with a New MacMini and a New IPad Pro.

I’m hyped now

Eh, all this is speculation and while it seems nice, ultimately we won't know until the conference!

Still hoping for that patent to appear this Tuesday the 29th, just like the iPad Pro 10.5 patent appeared last year May 29th so will keep my fingers crossed..makes sense for them to release a new iPad every year but if not, September for sure, I just dont see them waiting 2 years to release a new iPad
