One thing I have noticed with that image is that all the icons have been used in iOS Software, then there's shapes that could look like really minimal versions of old products BUT one stands out for me.... the outline of a cube. Everything else is solid and 'real', that looks like something that needs filling in.... it has to be a new Mac Mini with a cube form factor running an A11 or A12!

That would be pretty crazy if the A12 is done on 7nm.

I was trying to think - 2012-2014 we had iPads launch in the fall just after iPhones with the same A series chips right? A6/A6X, A7, A8/A8X? Since then there was a bit of delay getting them into iPads.

2015: A9 in the 6s, then A9X few months after in the first iPad Pro and 6 months later in the 9.7”
2016: A10 in the 7, but then 9 months later for A10X in the iPad Pro
2017: A11 in the 8/X, and now its been almost 9 months and just about 12 months since iPad Pro update

Maybe if the iPad Pros get updated in the fall it could jump 2 generations to A12X (along with iPhones getting A12)? It would feel weird for them to get year old A11 this fall.

Actually that makes a lot of sense.

That is precisely what I am thinking is gonna happen!

Agreed with a slight twist. A poster above suggested they would focus performance on the IPP going forward. So they *could* release a 12X IPP and then put a battery optimized 12 into the phone. Raw horsepower for the “laptop replacement” devices and longer run time, huge marketing point, on the phones.

Good way to showcase the chips too. Let them rip on the IPP for 6 months and then , as per rumors, release a MB or mini powered by the A line down the road.

This is what I HOPE is gonna happen. I also think it makes a lot of sense... have the iPad Pro for the back to school season... if you advertise it as a notebook replacement! And don't have the iPhone followed by the iPad a month later... or 9 months later!

But Apple being Apple... you never know what they're gonna do anymore... it seems completely random to me sometimes.

(Like NO touchscreen MacBook... because that just DOESN'T WORK (which I agree with). But then market the iPad Pro with the keyboard cover... constantly!!! It's a real contradiction!)

Fingers crossed for the your first para, right?

As far as the IPP/Keyboard/Laptop replacement/contradictions. My super intelligent and wise comment is, "No ****. i've no idea what their long term plan is. lol"

Now I’m really curious what’s going to happen.

I had forgotten about 2010 and 2011, when the iPad and iPad 2 debuted with the A4 and A5, and then ~3 & 6 months later the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S adopted the same chips.

I don’t know if this universally applies but I saw this in talking about 7nm and 10nm:

“What is 7nm?
Like 10nm, 7nm has some pluses and minuses. Compared to 16nm/14nm, 7nm provides a 35% speed improvement, 65% less power, and a 3.3X density improvement, according to Gartner.”

No, these are all elements of the visual language Apple have used for years in their softwares and development tools. There is nothing more there.

Even if there’s no iPad announced at WWDC tomorrow I’m still selling my iPad Pro 9.7” value has tanked from $300 Trade in down to $240 now at $200 at Best Buy. Don’t think I can get much more than that anyways.

Are you planning on replacing it with something else? Or is it already an additional iPad?

I handed down my 9.7” Pro to my wife last year when I got a 12.9”. Once in a while I pick up the 9.7 and it feels like such a nice device (size/weight/screen).

At least for me, there seems to be an indirect relationship between size and how magical a device “feels.” That’s why the Macbook and the iPad mini were so impressive when I had those. All that tech placed into a tiny little silent package. Probably because I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s...

Now I have the 10.5” iPP and a 2017 13” MBP and I don’t experience them as Appleesque “magical” to use. Actually would love to go back to my 2015 setup...rMB, iPad mini 4, and iPhone 5s...or actually, put more accurately...current versions of those 3 devices in the same size package...

I’m similar. iPhone se, iPad mini, but 12.9 iPP instead of rMB because I need to be able to draw (otherwise I’d have a rMB). I love small mobile devices because they do everything you need but otherwise “get out of the way”. Love that. The only time I like big mobile devices is for work simply because it’s necessary. The focus these days on everything big and bigger frustrates me to no end.
