Exactly. M1's nothing special on iPads. Just natural progression coming from the A12X/Z.

We've had excellent battery life, thermals and silence ever since the original iPad. Performance? A8X was a turning point and A9X is when they started closing the gap with current gen mobile Intel.

Yeah the first iPad pro is where Apple started to close the gap... by the way that article you quoted brings back memories... I am a regular reader of Anandtech and I wrote a huge comment underneath this article back then... (someone even called it a "wall of text"... ?)

I agree about the 8GB RAM, not so much about OLED... but we'll see how mini-led will do...
As for the USB, it's USB 4, technically not TB4, so the minimum specs are a bit lower, but not much since it includes TB3. Since iPad will not run external GPUs anyway, it's basically just as good...
Agreed. Other than marketing and cool logos, there's no practical purpose for Thunderbolt on an iPad Pro.

iOS and the iPad itself are not going to support PCI-express devices like external GPU's. If there was a demand for it, USB 4 (and even the current USB-C implementation) are fast enough for multi-gig ethernet networking, high speed data transfer to and from solid state storage, display outputs, you name it.

Slap Mac OS on there already. Any hardware additions are a complete waste otherwise.
