Ha, I know, what we have to remember is the difference between these chips is starting to get sooooo marginal now... the difference between A12X/A14 is going to be so small, and only noticeable in single core situations, with the A12X/Z being better in multi core.

It’s crazy that everyone seems proper devastated because although their iPad Pro has got better speakers, better screen, better cameras, better microphones... the new iPad Air might open certain apps 1 second faster, and possibly export a movie 2 seconds quicker...

Exactly.

Why would Apple debut their impressive new flagship phones, and at the same event debut a chip that out-performs them?

OP, I think you’re too fixated on the fact that the new Air might have a very slight processing advantage overt the 6 month old Pro, even though the Pro still has other notable advantages.

The extra 2gb is used for the storage controller. Only 4gb is available for system use.
That is not correct. The extra 2 GB on the 2018 model is available for multi-tasking of multiple apps. However, at least from what we learned from Procreate, additional memory may not be available to individual apps.

OTOH, in the 2020 models, additional memory is available for multitasking of multiple apps and for individual apps.
