Wow, that's pretty impressive. That thing is a freaking beast, especially for the already blistering fast Windows Phone OS.

I do like the way Windows Phone looks as well. That tile system just really appeals to me. However, the app situation is a massive buzz kill.

Not bad. As far memory, no need for 3GB yet as WP manages memory well like iOS.

Things are getting better all the time. A few more apps were announced at Nokia World today (Instagram and Flipboard for a start) alongside others.

MS have truly hit the third place target now and WP is definitely here to stay.

I am getting it.

And coming from....a freckin iPhone 4.
(Although I also had an iPhone 5 the first 5 months this year).

Things that sold me :

The extra row of columns. Makes WP so much more practical.

Design, the battery 3400 mAh (!!!) which will guaranteed last at least a day, especially considering my type of usage.

The 4 microphones in video period.
As a music lover, the gigs phone has been for me the iPhone hands down for years, it was the lowest sound distortion phone in the market.
The Lumia 1020 already had 2-mics rich recording which was great and now they made it EVEN better.
Incredible from Nokia.
If you saw the keynote, there was the saxophone guy walking around the phone, and the sound recorded was 3D-like, not just stereo.

MicroSD card ! If by any luck I can squeeze in an 128gb card I will be the happiest guy on earth. But even "only" 64gb will do well.

The Smart Cover a la iPad is also a nice touch.

Wireless charging I still find it gimmicky but some people are fans of it.
Anyway, great phone overall.

So it took me 3 years to switch from the iPhone.
Even though I still find the iPhone to be the all-around best phone, Nokia simply created something which is better for ME.
And in a gorgeous design as usual.

Sorry, but metal is so 2011 :).

TOO MANY LUMIA's.

Seriously even the tech savy get lost in the multitude of Lumia iteration and numbering versions.

That being said it looks nice, but I prefer matte plastic / polycarbonate shells than the really glossy plastic ones nokia / microsoft are using of late.

They also for me are making the mistake the HTC Max has made - they are just supersizing a device - but without adding new features or ways of interacting with that bigger display. The Note line have been successful because of the extra features that feel at home on a bigger device, just blowing up your regular smartpohne seems like they are missing the point to me.

I KINDA agree. But then that's just how it goes in Nokia's world.

And yeah, that's why I'd prefer the cheaper version, the glossy back is just ugh.

I don't think they need new features. But I hope the apps don't just stretch out, and maybe just show more.

Yep anything that basically enhances the user experience rather than just blows it up is what we should be getting with bigger phones.

The problem I see for Nokia is that the 1020 is only just getting released on many carriers now and here they go trumpeting the new baby before consumers have even been introduced to the couple month old baby.

Windows doesn't appeal to me. As their devices and screens get larger, I feel like the tile-look just gets all the more cluttered.

Also apps.

Wow, that's nice. Their tile approach is so uncluttered and functional, it's like having the best of both worlds. Android has icons and widgets, but they are kind of all over the place in functionality and styling. iOS has basic icons very well laid out, but they provide zero information at a glance. WP has the tiles which are functionally well laid out AND provide a lot of information at a glance.

8.7mm thin as well, wow. I didn't like previous Lumias because they were much too thick, but this one sounds nice.

But as much as it looks nice I probably won't get it, I just need certain apps that they don't have such as Waze. Hopefully this is the year MS really gets the WP app store going, with hits like this Lumia and the Dell Venue 8 pro tablet I think they are off to a great start this holiday season.

Natively, apps will just be larger (larger icons, text, but not pixelated). It's up to a developer to detect a larger screen and take advantage of it. It's not difficult, but it will take some time for the devices to filter into developers, and then for them to update apps.

You can do cool things with the start screen, like this:

I wonder what this will do to the price of the 1020? If it causes it to drop by $100-$200 it changes things up for me.

I think it was a huge mistake not including stylus support. It's a freaking phablet. I would have at least considered it.

I'm baffled by this as well, not only by MS but by other companies who make something at least 6".

I am also glad they went back to IPS LCD.
I've played a while with the 1020 in stores but never really got used to the Amoled.
It still felt to oversaturated for me. Yeah, those blacks were really cool and pure black but the rest felt a bit fake.

I really believe this new display is awesome

I'm sure it will be a long time before it comes to Verizon so odds are I won't be getting it.

Indeed. If history is any indication, this will come out for Verizon in eight months and be redesigned with all of the visual aesthetic of a crushed shoebox.

I'm curious about the 2520 as well. These might be the last opportunities to snatch up a 100% Nokia product before Microsoft... erm... changes them.

I'm reading that the 1520 is an AT&T exclusive, so my next phone certainly won't be a windows phone.

I'm actually hoping MS buying Nokia kills the whole carrier exclusive thing. Only reason for carrier exclusives is Nokia couldn't afford the marketing and had the carrier do the marketing for them. MS has deep pockets and doesn't need to do this

I still want a 1020 on Verizon
