I have had my 1520 for a couple days now and love it... It is extremely hard to get out of the iOS ecosystem though..I keep switching back and forth between my 5s and the 1520. I can't really make up my mind.

I'll tell you another thing, once WP8 get's a real notification center and quick toggles(coming early 2014) it will have surpassed iOS IMO...The operating system is just butter. There are tons of useful features and it's not like Samsung where you will not use 3/4's of them. Really nice stuff.

The only thing i do not like about the OS is the capacitive buttons, but i can see how they are very useful compared to just a single button.

I have 30 days to decide though since i bought it full price :D

I am really wishing I was on AT&T right now so I could get the 1520. I might not feel that way once I get my hands on one, but the video reviews make it look so nice.

This is about half the reason i switched back to AT&T after a couple years with Verizon. I don't know if that's who you have but Verizon is always getting phones weeks or months later after initial launches on other carriers. This and there are a ton more GSM phones out there to choose from. Another part of the reason i went to AT&T was to give WP8 a real good try since i knew they were always getting new models in.

A few other things

- The screen is just amazing out doors, there is absolutely no comparison to other phones at all. No one is even in the same league as Nokia with there clear black technology they use for this. Read up on it, it's pretty cool stuff! I always liked the colors of amoled, but hated the soft look they have. They also never got nearly as bright as IPS LCD's. These screens Nokia are using pretty much take the best of both worlds and combine them. Polarized sunglasses barely effect it also when your looking at it through them, pretty awesome.

-A couple quirks with there volume control strategies...I really hate it actually. You have one volume control for everything, you can adjust the in call volume while your on call from a scale of 0-10. However, visual voicemail is built into the OS like iOS and it works great, BUT...when you listen to visual voicemail it is tied into that single volume control for your whole system. So if you have for volume anywhere near less than 50% of the system volume you can barely hear your voicemails. Then you have to turn the volume up and then remember to turn it back down afterwards if you want to go back to your original settings:confused: Really really stupid way of doing it. The visual voicemail audio level's should share the same volume control as the in call level. It's probably the biggest thing i hate about the phone more than the capacitive buttons. Hopefully they fix this...

I'm on Verizon and the selection of phones is my main beef. I used to be on AT&T before I had a smartphone but I switched because the coverage wasn't that good where I am now. I think it is probably fine now, but the etf's with Verizon will make it costly to switch eight now.

I picked up a 1520 today. What a beast! Although I am a fan of large screens, I think this might be pushing it a bit. It's a really beautiful phone though. The camera is amazing, and everything just flies on it. I wasn't keeping up with WP8 for the past several months, so I was pleasantly surprised to see how much the app store has grown. Everything I normally use is in there now except for one app.

I am trying to decide if I can handle this thing- I'm thinking I might grab a 1020 instead. Then again I know how dreadful making a return at Best Buy can be so I'm a little hesitant to go down that road. I might just keep it and use it as a tablet at home.

Nokia really knocked it out of the park with this one, they deserve some props for that.

I am going on week two with mine now. The longer I use it the more I am liking it. Every time I go back to my 5s it just really feels stale to me. I think after trying about 15 different flagships over the last couple years I have found the phone that will take me from iOS after 6 years.

Camera impressions.

Hi Folks,

I am tempted to pick one up - is the camera good. I would pick up a 1020 but the dual core and 1280x768 resolution puts me off in comparison to the hardware specs of the 1520. That and after using my Note 3 i'm not sure I could go down to a much smaller screen.

So what's the camera like ? Anyone got photos they can share.

The camera is great. Not as good as the 1020, with the biggest difference being the flash (in my opinion). But for a cell phone? It's probably second only to the 1020. I've been going back and forth between both a 1020 and a 1520 for a couple weeks and when it comes to a basic shot I barely notice a difference (although I avoid flash at all costs). Obviously for zooming the 1020 is better, but the 1520 has most of the same capabilities and you still get the Nokia Camera app.

Plus, the 1520 has the latest software, which is not yet out for other Lumias. That alone kind of makes me want to just keep it and sell the other, but I'm still getting used to the size, and I'd like to wait for a car mount before I commit to it as my only phone.

FYI, you can sign up for a preview for developers (an app) for free and gain access to the latest software for lumias (I have a 920).

I'm seriously considering buying a white 1520. You have 14 days with ATT to return so I think I am going to do it to replace my 5s. If I don't like it I will return it .. if not I will sell my 5s:eek:

It's worth at least checking out if you've ever been curios about WP8. The 1520 makes WP8 really sing in my opinion. The Lumia Black update and the extra row of icons make the experience nicer than on other phones.

I was glad I got my 520 without the Amber update to see how limited WP8 was. After the Amber update I really enjoy the phone (even being a budget version). The Black update will bring it on par with Android and iOS.

My only issue with WP8 is the lack of some apps I use a lot of (particularly Google apps). It sucks that Google keeps their apps out of Windows Phones, but doesn't mind having them in iOS. I don't get that.

iOS is too big and widespread to not support. Google don't want WP8 to grow because it's competition to Android so are ignoring it and not helping it grow by providing services for it.

The nature of WP8 causes me to play with my phone less, so I've seen great battery life on the 920, 1020, and 1520. The 1520 is a monster though, no doubt about it. If phablets are your thing, you won't find a better battery, screen, or camera right now.

This phone is definitely a beast, and deserves attention.

The only thing that gives me pause, is some of the missing apps. However, the phone is so different than anything else out there, makes me want to keep it for that reason alone.

I think Windows Phone is so different, that our minds just don't know how to take it.

What to do,what to do...

Funny to find these threads on here...have been on iOS since the first iPhone but just switched to the 1520 last week...love it. My local AT&T store had a car mount for it (generic spring loaded one for large phones) that works great. I have it mounted low in landscape mode...functions as well as any high end GPS I have ever owned. Just waiting for Waze to add a landscape view so I can use that for my commute...but the Here+ app is impressive as a commuting tool as well.

The screen is incredible...best I have ever seen.

One of my favorite features is the "glance" lock screen that shows the time as well as notifications I have selected like work email, Facebook, Twitter.

Lack of as many apps on Windows is not a concern for me as Windows has all the ones I use on a regular basis.

If the phone offered an app store equal to Apple or Google, I'd likely buy it. friend at work is like you, lives with the apps that are available and likes it.

It's funny too, because Windows Phone, makes you realize you could do without half of the app you have loaded on your iPhone or Android.

I'll be keeping this phone for the forseeable future.

That is what keeps me from using a windows phone. I rely heavily on google apps (drive, gmail, calendar, photos, keep)
