No reason why it wouldn't work on Apple Silicon systems, it's using the built in USB drivers. But I'll say it again- there are multiple reports of the Startech working for AC3 & DTS passthrough. You need to troubleshoot the issues, methodically, not spend more money.

Thank you for caring about me.

begining with ... ?
It's most likely to be the software configuration, but you want to check everything. Easiest way: start setting it up from scratch. Plug the Startech in, make sure it's recognised & selected as output in System Preferences. Plug the SPDIF cable in, make sure it's working…and so on.

Ok, I finally managed to output a dolby 5.1 signal via the Startech card, but not completely...
that is to say that I receive the 6 channels separately on my amp, but I no longer have ANY volume control on VLC, I can't even mute it.

Please Startech users, tell me how to control the volume of a video on an M1. Thanks !!

Not sure if this is a "Startech issue". If you use Encoded output in VLC, then you will have no volume controls from the computer, as the sound is sent "as is" to your amplifier. So, your amplifier needs to handle volume.
