So it seems my CC license is renewing and it states I have an annual contract paid monthly. If I cancel within 14 days, I'll get the 9.99+tax back which seems simple enough but what I'd like confirmation about is the bolded parts.

To put it more simply, I'm on the hook for one year of service, if I cancel, and after the 14 days I'll be charged 1/2 of the annual contract AND it will cease to work by the end of the month - is that a correct statement?

I'm thinking I may need to end my relationship with Adobe sooner then later if that's the case.

Annual contract, paid monthly
Service begins as soon as your initial payment is processed You’ll be charged the rate stated at the time of purchase, plus applicable taxes (such as value added tax when the stated rate doesn’t include Tax/VAT), every month for the duration of your annual contract. If the applicable Tax/VAT rate (or other included tax or duty) changes during your one-year term, the tax-inclusive price will adjust accordingly. Your contract will renew automatically, on your annual renewal date, until you cancel. Renewal rates are subject to change, but we’ll always notify you beforehand. If you cancel within 14 days of your order, you’ll be fully refunded. Should you cancel after 14 days, you’ll be charged 50% of your remaining contract obligation and your service will continue until the end of that month’s billing period. Cancellations can be made any time by visiting your Manage Accountpage or by contacting Customer Support.

Reads like, say you cancel after 6 weeks (i.e. you've paid 2 months), then you would pay an extra 5 months (half of the remaining 10) and the services finish at the end of the second month, but agree with the other poster about checking this with Adobe.

I cancelled my subscription but yes outside the narrow window. Terrible practise really...The weird thing was that it is cheaper to continue my subscription at the lowest level, then to cancel. I just 'saved' £200 by doing that...

To update on that; my 'downgrade' is now processed over night. So I thought lets try and see if I can cancel the downgrade. And voila, it was allowed. So now I'm out of the full contract....Ssssh don't tell Adobe...

Best delete that last bit before they see it and change their Ts&Cs :)

I think regardless of the hefty cancellation fee if you miss the 14 day window, the fact remains you're agreeing to an annual contract. Given my desire to leave the Adobe fold this past year and now more so. I think its in my best interest to not be locked into an annual contract. I still have a little time before I need to pull the trigger but at this point I know what I have to do.

Wow, that's a dick move on Adobe's part. Does this apply to all jurisdictions? I sure hope this doesn't fly in the EU.

Applies in the UK as I just received my renewal, seems to be exactly the same text.

Different conditions if you pre-pay for a year and then cancel.

Well, my license is due to renew in a few more days. I'll be looking to contact Adobe and cancelling. I've made up my mind to walk away.

The funny thing is that I'd probably be willing to stick with them, at least a little while longer, but locking me in for a year with the termination fee being what it is, I'm not really wanting to stay with them.

The good news is my catalog and LR application will be fully functional, other then edit module so I don't have to scramble to export everything

That is what I did earlier this year. All I have needed is Photo Mechanic do the imports into the file system. But is because of how I want file renaming handled.

Congratulations! So where are moving?

Edit: OK, I saw on the Luminar thread that it's Luminar.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards Luminar, though I still can use LR, just not the edit module. I need to flesh out a workflow that makes sense for the short term, and then if Luminar has a decent DAM, I'll figure out how to proceed with that.

Now its official, I'm no longer subscribing, Adobe lost another customer. I know my departure is just a drop in the bucket and the switch to subscription has been wildly successful to their bottom line. Yet, for my humble needs, I could not justify the subscription, more so once I felt that the "classic" version would get less attention then their new version.

I had to put the cart before the horse as I don't have a replacement fully lined up yet. I have a couple of hopefuls but nothing concrete. I had to move quicker then I wanted given their steep cancellation policy. The good news is that I can still use LightRoom, its just the edit module is now disabled.

Welcome to the club! I also ditched Photo RAW and the Plus club that acts like a subscription. I am down to just my collection of Skylum apps and Photo Mechanic.

Here
I can confirm that they charge you half of your remaining contract as I did the same.

Tried Photos and iCloud Photo Library for a few months, but just today I discovered that for the second time all of my devices and iCloud.com were out of sync and the difference wasnt solely new photos. I don’t know why this is so hard for Apple.

I deleted my entire online library on all my devices. Now I’m considering rebuilding it all in Photos in the Mac and trying it again. Photos is half way decent, but iCloud was the main draw. If I’m not going to use it then I prefer a more flexible DAM, but I’ve been looking for a DAM 2 years, it shouldn’t be this difficult, :(

I agree this isn't rocket surgery

It isn't, it is just seen by many as dull and boring compared to finger painting apps to do Andy Warhol-alike versions of your selfies or to turn your Grandma into an emoji.

So they put the development attempts into the fancy visual stuff to rake the dollars in. Why wouldn't they.

Trivial examples of focus in Lightroom:
1. Being able to reliably paste some metadata date items from one image to another is still on the wish-list years later, not enough people have 'voted' for it, similarly some of the commands to do bulk changes
2. Adobe have just admitted they can reproduce a bug, first reported with worked examples somewhere between six and ten years ago
